Has anyone fitted an exhaust brake to work with one of these engines? I have a 2015 Q7 that just free wheels down hill no matter what gear or speed, cruise on or off, it just goes faster and faster.

Does yours have the dieselgate recall/retrofit? They removed a lot of the automatic engine braking features with the retrofit. You can change the tranny coding and/or reverse the dieselgate tune, but all it will do is downshift, which you can also do manually.

Some aftermarket tuners claim to increase the engine braking by messing with the variable turbo, and intake/throttle flaps. I don't know if that actually does much, or if it's safe for the engine.

My '09 has plenty of engine braking totally stock for going down mountain passes with a trailer, if I just downshift to keep the RPMs up around 3000 or so.

I wouldn't add a real jake brake to an engine not engineered for it, there are a lot of sensitive things in the exhaust path that tons of backpressure could damage: EGR cooler, sensors, turbo, thin pipes, etc. The ECU would also likely freak out when it notices the exhaust is blocked off. Exhaust pressures are constantly measured in multiple spots to determine if the DPF is clogged.

Wasn't there a member on here that was offering "pre-fix" TCM's, or if you sent yours they would re-flash it?
I could be wrong but I think it was @yrktreg

The loss of engine braking was a direct result of vag pushing the diesel fix.

@yrktreg makes a custom tcu tune that enhanced performance and also restores engine braking. I'm sorry you went with Malone.

I would hit up Joe. These 3.0 never had astronomical engine braking as it was, so keep your expectations in check, but Joe's tune definitely restores what they lost from the emissions fix. If you have zero engine braking something is up.

What vehicle and year do you have again?

I hate to say it, but the Malone tune writes over my tune. So anything I did is now gone.

The later 2015-2016 Touareg's, and Cayenne's have the least amount of engine braking pre and especially post fix.
The Q7's were neutered like the Touareg's, and Cayenne's are for these years for some reason.

Ahhh now it's adding up. I was going to say it definitely does not shine like your tuning But it turns out your tuning was overwritten
