Stick with as small as a wheel as your Treg will support, especially for towing.

Towing the caravan will be fine but the ride quality will suffer - both are the inevitable effect of reducing the tyre sidewall. If you really want to improve the ride, go down to 17" VW wheels or 18" after-market wheels - these will have much bigger sidewalls and will still tow the caravan just fine.

The more "give" in the tyre sidewall, the softer and more comfortable the ride quality.

All wheels fitted to Touaregs, like most other models, have the same nominal overall diameter with factory option tyres so the tyre sidewall height varies inversely with the rim diameter so 21" wheels will have 2" (50mm) less sidewall than 17" wheels

21" Mallory wheels with Pirellis look awesome on the Touareg. I've had mine for about 5 years now with no issues.
I regularly tow a heavy duty utility trailer with a tractor loaded on it.
They actually have a very nice ride quality and smooth at higher speeds. Can't wait for spring to get them mounted again.

One of the other problems with larger wheel/lower profile tire is the chance of a blowout when hitting a pot hole, which if big enough can also damage the wheel.

You got that with any wheel size.

Weird, either a glitch in the forum or my browser but I don't see pictures.
