The 2017 Touareg [T3 VW model numbering or T5 Touareg owners' numbering!] is HERE . . .

Auto hold is standard on all trims. Nice. Love the interior enhancements. Looks like VW is clearing out the parts bin for the major redesign in 2018.

The Wolfsburg seems better than the Exec now.

I'm kind of surprised they're even bothering with another iteration of the current Touareg here, especially if there's no TDI and no substantial update to the RNS-850 to add features like CarNet, CarPlay, etc.

EDIT: There's nothing in that press release about the CrossBlue.

Still think there will be a TDI for 2017. Reminds me of 2010, lots of special features, interior enhancements, bling for last model year of generation. Some of these things were planned months and months ago.

If the Touareg is truly dead here it would be 2018 onward...just don't know what to think.

Wonder what the Exec would have besides Dynaudio and rear heated seats and 21s over the Wolfsburg.

Tempting, as always. We will know how things shake out soon enough.

Not having a TDI option is killing Touareg sales here in the States. Even after the price drop plus increased incentives, sales are are down to less than 400/month thru May. (Add just over a hundred a month in Canada.) I think it's time to consider that 2017 could be the last model year we'll see our beloved Touareg in North America. If the Q7 and Cayenne aren't offered with a diesel option, and it appears they won't be, there's no way VW certifies the engine just for the Touareg anyway. I might consider another non-diesel Touareg if the supercharged 3.0T were on the options sheet, but I don't think Audi allows that to happen.

Sure is... Still think the TDI is in the works but there's no mention of it for obvious reasons. I'm sure there are other powertrains in the works for the next-gen.

VW handcuffed itself. Maybe tomorrow will bring more clarity.

There was nothing compelling with the Touareg Hybrid. Sure, it was a hoot to drive but the premium was not worth it. Was supposed to replace the V8 and I was thisclose to buying it. Good first try. Still think we will get the TDI for 2017. I know...I'm a little nuts.

The only *if* on the 2017 NA tdi, is if it will be EPA certified to be sold in the usa.

VW has admitted in a recent news story that EU emission rules put the future of the tdi in peril. The current tdi designs should pass emissions in the EU until 2020. Past 2020, no guarantees. ie: We are not sure if we will design a replacement tdi at this time.

VW will usually sell in old engine design in their other, less stringent markets until they are forced to stop selling it.

So what is the future?

Within the EU, which is VW's primary diesel market, it's not clear where the emission regulations are going - the politicians want more accurate testing and lowering of emissions - the car makers are struggling to meet current regulations if/when they introduce more accurate testing - on top of this impasse an increasing number of European cities will bring in bans for certain vehicles and the more widespread availability of small capacity turbo-petrol engines means that the demand for diesel cars will reduce significantly - plus of course EVs will become more practical in terms of cost and range so increase in market penetration.

My personal view is that SUVs will feature prominently in the hybrid segment - their electric motors have the high torque needed and the additional weight of batteries is less noticeable than in eco-cars - I think the PHEV range extender types have a good future but you'll need a crystal ball to guess what the power plant will - I like the micro-turbine range extender concept because it overcomes all the downsides of gas turbines when used in road vehicles - and the UK's JLR is at the forefront of research on this!

With no tdi over here they really should be dropping the 3.0T Audi engine into the '17 just to keep it relevant and interesting.

Hello! Is this future VW Touareg or it will never happen?
Good find. The video itself is too long, but it was relatively informative. Amazing how much more you can pick up visually from video compared to still photos.

It's good to hear the all-touch screen center stack will be optional. I walked away from the XC90 in large part because there are no hard controls even for some of the most basic functions. An almost complete reliance on touch screens isn't acceptable for any manufacturer, but it's especially so for a company claiming to prioritize safety as Volvo does. Until you can "feel" controls on a touch screen, their functionality should be limited to secondary controls only. Give me buttons, dammit!

Interesting video. Some of those features and design are definitely going to be in the next-gen. Will we see it here? No idea but I hope so...

2017 Volkswagen Touareg to go upmarket | Autocar

Under the bonnet of that concept was a plug-in hybrid powertrain that produced 381bhp and 516lb ft of torque. The system could run in full-electric mode for up to 50 miles. In its most economical mode, the concept was also capable of more than 94mpg combined.

Keep in mind the US 2017 Touareg is largely unchanged from the 2016. We probably won't get this new design until 2018.

Touareg Lux model is replaced by new Wolfsburg Edition

Driver Assistance Package and Park Distance Control (Park Pilot) now standard on all trims

For 2017, the Touareg receives some equipment changes and the Lux trim is replaced by a new, value-oriented Wolfsburg trim. On the Sport with Technology trim, the following are added as standard features: Auto Hold; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist); Lane Change Assist (Side Assist); Park Distance Control (Park Pilot); and a heatable steering wheel. The Executive model now has standard 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and Auto Hold is now standard on all trims. The Wolfsburg Edition benefits from a number of design enhancements, including: brushed aluminum décor, stainless steel door sills and pedals, black headliner, two-tone Vienna leather seating surfaces, heatable front seats, that can be ventilated, gray door inserts, a Wolfsburg badge, and contrast stitching on the floormats, steering wheel and shifter. The vehicle is also available with an all-black interior. Externally, the vehicle rides on 20-inch Tarragona wheels that have a diamond-turned finish, with the option of blacked-out 20-inch Mallory wheels.

"Touareg: A big question mark hangs over VW's premium midsize crossover. There's less need for the Touareg given its slow sales and the impending arrival of the new midsize crossover, which will encroach on the Touareg's turf at the larger end of VW's lineup. The Touareg is due for a redesign in 2019 or 2020 globally, but the company is still on the fence about whether to sell it stateside."

Hopefully the Touraeg makes the cut. If Toyota can sell the Highlander and 4Runner alongside each other, VW can sell both the BlueCrap and the Touareg alongside each other too. In North America, there is no such thing as having too much SUVs in the line up. While they are at it, VW should bring the SWB Tiguan too. The LWB one looks horrible.

The t prime looks like a legitimate Touareg replacement. My list of likes and dislikes:

-Love the side profile and rear end styling
-design looks evolutionary while carrying some styling cues from its more expensive platform mates
-looks like they are aiming for the xc90 with this vehicle, which is probably what the Touareg should be gunning for

-do not like the overly styled front end, notably the light treatment going accross the grille and the deep grille. A more Range Rover sport - like treatment up front with narrow grille would IMO look best. Also it should not resemble the atlas in any way and the grille really reminds me of an atlas.
-generally like the interior (other than the useless 4 seat configuration), but I hope they peel back on the over use of gadgets. One of my t3 loves is the simplicity of the dash
-the need to lose the kink in the d pillar, that's a BMW design cue and it looks out of place on this and every other vw it's appearing on
-they need to lose the fender badging, to me nothing screams low end like an overstyled fender opening/badge.

-I hope they put in seats that rival the xc90. Bad seats has been a complaint for most since the first t1
-I hope they offer air suspension
-I'm wondering if they will start marketing/pricing this the way pickup trucks are marketed ie: it's not hard to get 20% off the msrp.

He said that these show car's LED lights passing through the grille will not be allowed (forbidden) for safety regulations/reasons.
Compare below pictures. I made this photo few days ago at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport. The real life Tiguan front has no "C signatures" lights in the lower part. (Finally we get Neue Tiguan, it will be produced locally at Kaluga plant starting from the end of January 2017).
