This is all speculation, but I don't think the 7-passenger Tiguan is coming here. There are reports that it will exist, but I haven't seen anything stating that we're going to have it here. For some reason I feel like it's intended for China.

Personally, I think this is the last generation of the Touareg for the US. I don't think they will kill it off as soon at the 7-passenger CrossBlue arrives. They did after all just give it a face lift that should last a few years. My bet is it will disappear when/if a smaller 5-passenger CrossBlue goes on sale. I'd imagine this would be about the size of the current Touareg and still a bit bigger than the Tiguan.

Then again, VW has been known for doing screwy things at a moments notice, especially in the US. No one knows what is actually going to happen.

"Expected to debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, the seven-seat VW Tiguan will target the US market first and foremost, as seven-seat SUVs are very popular Stateside. However, VW will likely sell the longer Tiguan in other markets as well, including the Middle East, China and Europe."

Well, #*$%! So, now we'll have 2 7-passenger SUVs and the Touareg somewhere in the middle that seats 5. It's doomed.

I couldn't help but notice there was no Touareg at the Chicago Auto Show this year.

I would prefer that the Touareg stays under the Volkswagen brand rather than rebadged as an Audi. With the Phaeton (potentially) making a come back it helps reinforce the "high-end" VW branding. I like that the Touareg is an understated vehicle. It doesn't draw attention from co-workers or potential clients like a BMW/Mercedes/Audi would.

If the Phaeton is not coming back I don't see and reason for VW to keep the Touareg in the US. The sales volume is very low (it's hardly promoted) and with the larger Tiguan/CrossBlue in the lineup the Touareg is a very hard sell.
