2013 Touareg V6 TDI Engine Control Malfunction

A couple of months ago I purchased a 2013 VW Touareg V6 TDI with only 10,000 miles. While driving on regular rode, an engine warning light came on (it looked like two loops) and was flashing. I looked it over in the Driver's Manual, and turned out to be an "engine control malfunction." I went to a store, turned it off and turned it back and it was gone. Any idea what could have caused the warning light to come on? The car only has 20,000 miles on it.

It is apparently a fault which has cleared. I suggest you get a scan done to see if there is an underlying issue. Do you have access to VCDS, if not I suggest you invest in a copy. The best under $500 spend you will ever make.

The 3.0 tdi is a super complex motor with hundreds of fault codes that can trigger a single warning lamp. No offense but it sounds like you are not that experienced in diagnostics or repairs, if I were you I would bring it to a VW dealership and have it professionally diagnosed, you should have a 5 year 60k mile powertrain warranty provided your in North America.

I believe it flashing is an indicator for the DPF being "full"

DPF fault is one of many possible issues which could cause this indication. In general, if a fault occurs, it is recorded in the ECU memory (even if it clears later). If the light is steady, it is a warning of an issue. If it is flashing it usually means immediate attention is required.
All of these are known collectively as MIL [Malfunction Indicator Lights] and each system in the car has symbols unique to that system. The engine related systems are usually shown by the double loop 'glo plug' symbol.
