Cayenne turbo sway bars are direct swap in for the earlier Touareg models and make a huge difference on my V10. Do some research, it'll be worth your while.

 

I started looking into it. The non-active sway bars for the Cayenne S have either a "green mark" or a lilac mark. The Touareg sway bars have 4 versions, blue, yellow, green, and lilac. The green one is the more expensive one, both for the Touareg and the Cayenne. I have to look into whether or not the "green mark" bar is the same on both Touareg and Cayenne. Then I have to figure out which is the stock one on the Touareg Exec....

Also I wonder if installing the Cayenne springs and shocks would make a difference, or if they are different than the Touareg. I don't want mine lowered at all, so this excludes aftermarket springs, all of which seem to lower the truck....

Looking at the parts diagrams for both, it seems that they would be completely interchangeable.

 

Can those of you "in the know" describe what changes result from what parts changes?

Did some research and spent some time on the phone with a Porsche parts guy. I ended up purchasing the "green dot" bars and bushings, which are for the Turbo and GTS with steel non-PASM suspension. They are quite hefty. There is one that is a bit thicker (brown dot), but the parts guy said that is for the PASM version, so may not be ideal, so suggested the green dot. I will install this weekend and post pics and part numbers after I verify that they fit, etc.

I'm interested to hear about the swap as well. Prior to the Touareg, I had a 05 Cayenne S. I prefer the Touareg TDI engine and interior to my old Cayenne. However, I do miss the suspension and handling.

 

Did the swap out this weekend.

Porsche parts:

95534370170: Front stabilizer, green dot. $347
95534379261: Front stabilizer bushing. $8.51 x 4

95833370101: Rear stabilizer, green dot. $271
95533379240: Rear stabiliizer bushing. 12.91 x 4

Tips:

You will need 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, and 18mm sockets. I also used 16 and 18mm wrenches. A large channel lock is helpful to clamp on the new bushings and help place the mounting.

For the rear, you have to drop the muffler, 2 bolts on each side, make sure to support the dropped muffler so it is not dangling and putting undo strain on the forward pipe.

For the front, you have to remove the plastic covering, many 10mm bolts. The passenger side bar mount has a doughnut 10# weight on top of it that the mounting bolt sits inside the center. There is a plastic cap covering the bolt that is easily removed with a flat screwdriver.

Make sure to mount the stabilizer bar bushings EXACTLY as they are on the old bars since there is a subtle flat spot on the bushing that needs to be in correct place in order for brackets to fit.

Review:

The bars do improve lean significantly. Definitely worth it for me. Not sure if all will feel the same value. I know I am not driving a sports car, but I just wanted to improve the handling since that was my biggest gripe coming from my X5d. I feel the install was a success, and much happier.

It's interesting that those part numbers for the front sway bars match the T1 and T2 but the rears are different. VW and Porsche must have changed the rear suspension.

Yes. My OE front bar also had yellow dot and rear with blue dot.

I'm going to do this..., is there any shot that you can measure the diameter of the F / R green dot sways you installed. I'd like to compare diameters of the bars prior to ordering........

I attached side by side pics of the bars for your reference.

Per Porsche parts site, front green is 38mm. Rear green is 25mm.

I can't find a reference in VW parts site that lists the size, they just list the colors.

FRONT: Diameter of VW and Porsche front bars just outside bushing are both 119mm. However, the area between the bushings on both front bars are narrower, but the Porsche one is not as narrow as the VW . The VW's is about 107mm. I can not measure the Porsche bar since I'd have to remove the plastic underside to get to it, and can not get do it today. I can tell you it is thicker than VW, but not as thick as the outer part of the bar....

REAR: Diameter of VW: 75mm. Porsche 80mm

The diameter isn't the only factor, sway bars of same diameter have thicker walls and are stiffer. .

I researched this some time back. The bars are green on my 2012 Exec. Here is what the dealer gave as part numbers based on the vin

Rear: 7L0511025. 25x4
Front: 7L0411025g 38x4.5

I have also researched the R model which is about 10% stiffer. I need to dig through the email archives to find what the dealer gave for part numbers. The R and Cayenne bars appeared to be about the same but didn't get a chance to talk with Porsche yet. What I didn't research is if the cayenne air suspension bars would fit. I plan to install at least the Touareg R bars this summer. I also had some contacts ask the question as to the colors and if there was a chart that showed the differences. The question was routed to VW parts in Germany but nothing was found. There has to be one someplace.

My son has a 2013 Cayenne diesel and he's about to be sent on an undercar mission when he returns from a business trip..... have driven his which feels far stiffer in corners to mine car but I never checked his sways against my blue dot / yellow dot

At one point you had talked about changing the struts and springs as well. Did you have any luck in finding if it's possible to put GTS struts and springs on the Touareg? Do you feel like there's any value added in doing that after feeling the difference with just the sway bars?

I also don't want to lower my Touareg, at least not significantly, but I would like to improve the handling. Thanks for doing the initial research and testing this out!

 

I looked into it a bit, but cost is prohibitive, in the order of $4-5k or so. Not worth it for me. In fact, somewhere in my reading, I read that the VW TDI's springs are a bit stiffer anyhow, probably due to heavier motor.

I am happy with the new green dot bars. It made a difference enough to satisfy my wants.

 

I'm also going to install Cayenne sway bars this summer on my T2. I decided to go with the green dot front and yellow dot sway bars rear. It's difficult trying to compare VW part numbers to Porsche. sunset Porsche in Portland seems to have the best price.

I find it interesting we both have exec models, only difference being model year, and it appears the bars are different based on the color dot. So the question for me to figure out is the green dot you installed the same as the ones on my 2012? I believe the letter in the part number is key to describing the thickness. Thanks for the information as it will help with the research even though I am probably more puzzled now. I still think the R bars would be about 10% stiffer but is there a cayenne one that would be a better choice.

 

Well, get under the rear of yours and look at the etchings on the bar. They are on the underside of the bar. If it has a "K" on them, then they are the same.

 

I found the label for the rear but the part number doesn't have a letter between 025 and MUW. Is there another spot on the bar you have found the part number? The number the dealer provided for the rear also didn't have a letter. So far the one thing I have confirmed is the inconsistency they have at marking.

 

On the underside of my old bar, there was writing on the bar itself. It is very light and hard to see, so may need to wipe the road grime to see it. Almost looks like a sort of dot matrix print, large font....

 

I finally got a chance to get under my son's 2013 Cayenne diesel.

• His front sway bar had the green dot, measuring the diameter near the dot put it at 37mm
• The rear sway is marked by a purple circle and small yellow dot...I measured the bar in as may places as I could and had 25mm.
• Anyone familiar with this bar??

The Porsche brown dot one is also listed and is same price as green one. I wonder if it is any stiffer or not. The parts guy told me the brown dot was for the ones with the PASM....Who knows.
