Just got my 2011 Exec TDi yesterday, and I love it.
There was a post for the older t-reg secrets, here's one for the 2011.

-There's a key in your key, just push on the VW logo to get it out.
-There's 2 small compartment under the front seats.

Feel free to share your discovery in this post, i'll post more when I find somethin else.

Since I haven't had a Touareg before and don't know what's new or not, I'll post what I appreciate with my '11 model that I have not had on any other cars I've owned:

  • Heater with remote start, I never scrape my windows anymore!
  • Lowering the rear of the car with the air suspension when loading heavy stuff
  • Sport seats that are adjustable in any direction.
  • The head rests are adjustable horizontally!

Not sure if this is a secret or not, but if you have selected Nav there are a few things you can say to find certain things for example.

"i need diesel" and the nav will show you the closest diesel stations
"I'm Hungry" and the nav will show you the closest Restaurants
"i'm tired" and the nav will show you the closest hotels.

Very cool feature!!! I'll post more as i find them.

This is awesome...Sam. There's so little documentation in the owners manual on "voice" commands for the Infotainment center.

What happens if you say "my TReg is hungary for diesel"! :)

I'm dying for not just a complete list of shortcuts like those but also the general voice commands and functions. I think there's a ton that I'm missing out on...and have only tried voice a few times with little success before I get frustrated and just hand-code the inputs.

Wondering should we just contact the manufacturerer (NavTeq?) vs. VW for this stuff?

Edit: I shot NavTeq a request for more Voice detail/instructions.

Here's a secret. The rear hatch window does not open. Just moved from a 2008 touareg to the 2011 and was looking all over for the button to open the hatch window. Well, couldn't find it because it does not exist. A bit bummed as I keep my two dogs in the back and open the rear window on a hot day (especially if they are wet from the river). Not a huge deal but suprised vw would eliminate a simple and useful feature. Otherwise the 2011 is freaking sweet.

Not sure how secret it is, but I only found out today that the "new" "2011" "Touareg 3" model is classified as a "7P"....which makes searching for info a bit simpler.

Assigning settings to vehicle key

The instructions at the bottom of page 77 of the owner's manual for Assigning driver seat, steering wheel, and outside mirror settings for forward driving to a vehicle key are not correct. Use the following instructions:

  1. Unlock the driver door.

  2. Press and hold a memory button until memory position is reached and until completion of the next step.

  3. Press the open button on the vehicle key within about 3 seconds. A chime sounds to confirm activation.
Whenever the vehicle is locked with either key, the settings are stored to that key. So if you drive the Touareg and then lock it, the seat and mirror (and steering wheel on the Exec) positions are memorized, not to the associated button, but to the key. When a second driver unlocks the vehicle with the second key, all his/her key-stored adjustments are put into effect.

The only times you would use one of the three buttons on the door are as follows:

  • You do not lock your vehicle between uses. This would be the case if you kept it in a locked garage.

  • You allow a third party to drive your Touareg, he locks the door after making adjustments thereby overriding your key settings.

So, I have a question about this whole process, and what it's supposed to do.

I have successfully (I think) set my keys so that they have my settings. But, nothing moves, when I put my key in the ignition. Is it supposed to do that automatically, or do I still have to hit the button I assigned to my settings in order to make it move to those settings?

Not sure if these are secrets but things I discovered and haven’t found a mention of them in the owner’s manual.

- The Nav Companion (vwlabs.com) website doesn’t seem to place the vcf files in the right directory. It creates directories based on the car you choose in the web site. I tried the settings for the T3, Q7, and Q5. It will let you import them into the Nav if you place it in the root directory of the SD card, which is not where the web tool writes them to.

- When I approach a parking bumper, the fog lights turn on.

- When I signal for a lane change, the fog light comes on for the direction I selected. I’m assuming this is part of the adaptive lighting.

- The lens in the bumper, which look almost identical to the Q5 my T3 is parked next to in the garage, have no bulbs – the Q5 does. I’m assuming the euro T3 models get the rear fog lights.

- The headlight washer “cut outs” in the front bumper serve no purpose in the US models.

- And despite me reading the manual several times, I don’t know where the battery is J Maybe it’s a secret, or I totally missed it.

I recently picked up the Exec and I just figured out how to use the keyless entry system. I thought it was just cool to have the push to start, but the little censors in the handles that lock and unlock the vehicle are rad!

Oh and it took me like three days to figure out that the cd/dvd player is in the glove box and drops down only when you pull the little yellow tab :)

Just in case you don't come across the threads about it, the Surround adjustment on the Dynaudio system is "active" with the HDD input and Bluetooth etc. Spotty with HD radio and doesn't receive enough info to activate with Sirius.
