Got the Touareg back

Finally!!! After a lot of run around and misinformation I got the car back.

The dealership admitted that there have been two other Touareg TDIs with the same issue my vehicle is having. A training technician came out to look at my car last week and told them which parts to order. Here is a list of what they replaced this time:

Urea (GUS-052-910-A3)
Urea Tank (7P6-131-878)
Repair Kit (7NO-198-965)
Rep Kit (7P6-198-970)
Tie Wrap (2E0-971-350-M)
Delivery Module (2E0-919-050-S)
Supply Line (7P6-131-983-C)
Eval. Unit (3C0-906-651)
Contr. Unit (7N0-941-329)
Wiring Set (7P6-971-819-A)
Adapter (2E0-201-485)
Urea (G-052-910-A2)
Nut (N-106-092-03)

Fairly extensive repairs. They had previously replaced the 7P6-198-970 Repair Kit, Delivery Module, 2 Supply lines (one listed above replaced again), a cable, and the urea.

This time it was throwing three different faults: P20E800; P202A00; and P20B700. The technician noted that these were all sporadic.

The two repairs took a cumulative time of 25 days. I got home and did a walk around of my vehicle - two scratches by gas tank and the rear driver wheel well plastic trim is coming off, there is also some weird white crystal stuff all over the inside where the spare tire and Ad Blue tank is.

It's bittersweet - I am pissed that this is happening. I was so happy driving my car again. I was pissed again when I got home and noticed the other issues.

glad to hear they threw all the parts at it...the damage sucks but I hope they'll make good on it.

Geez, sorry to hear and thanks so much for sharing! Coincidentally my TDI went back in yesterday, I've been getting the same 1050 km range warning for the Adblue. The dealer topped it up full, gave me an extra bottle and said parts were ordered from Germany, including a new tank.
I'll be forwarding your post to the service manager so he may cross reference, since I'm being told VW Canada is telling them this issue is unique. We are also the third Touareg from this dealer to have issues with the Adblue warnings I'm told, but do not know the specifics of the others.
I'm happy with the service from our dealer, been going to them for 8 years, so I hope this is rectified without problem.
I empathize with you on the damage to your vehicle, that is unacceptable! I would get it in there ASAP though and have them clean up the crystallization and well as fix the scratches and the wheel well. From what I understand, the Urea is highly corrosive, which is why the bottle has been designed to attach to the tank the way it does.
Thanks again for sharing, and I wish you well with your VW dealer; I trust you've documented everything well in case you need to go over their heads.

The dealership sent a flatbed tow truck out (at the insistence of VW Corp.) to pick up my car to make the repairs to the damage they inflicted. They came and got it on Thursday August 24. I got a call from the service manager yesterday. He said that I wont be getting my car back until at least Wednesday August 31.

I am not very happy to say the least. This makes it a total of 32 days they have had the car since I purchased it on March 30.

So, today we had to take the Touareg back to the dealership. The AdBlue warning came on again. Looks like we will no longer be the owners of a Touareg - or any other VW for that matter. After replacing the entire system, it was less than 500 miles until that system failed again!

Sounds like a comedy/tragedy of errors. Unfortunately, for those who have been bitten by this bug, it has been a difficult time getting clear. Others have not had any problems. I wonder if they are reexamining their assemblies back in Slovakia.

The Touareg is still at the dealership. VWofA customer advocate has now (FINALLY) told me/admitted that they do not know how to fix the car. She went so far as to say that she agreed with my decision for a refund instead of another Touareg because they couldn't guarantee that the new Touareg wouldn't have the same issue. Especially since they don't know how to fix it!!! Stay away from the TDIs until they figure all this out!!! Wait a few YEARS!!!

They (VWofA) offered me either my $ back or a new Touareg. I suggest you contact VW of America (if you haven't already). They are the ones who would be in the position to settle this for you. Your local dealership has no say in the matter.

Of course they wanted me to choose a new Touareg so I would stay with them... I took my money back. There is an issue with the AdBlue system that they haven't solved. They keep replacing them with new systems that may or may not have the same faults. It got to the point where they told me it was the "brain" of the car causing the issues, not the AdBlue system. But I have heard that even after reprograming/replacing the "brain" computer of the vehicles they are still experiencing probelms with the AdBlue system.

So, whether you want your $ back or a new Touareg just really depends on how fed up you are with always being at the dealership.

Good Luck!!!

Froggy,
I’ve bought my TDI on August 22 of 2011 –right when you were in a midst of the Ad Blue quarrel with the VW (judging by the dates of your posts). I’ve had Ad Blue issues just like you’ve described. It has been resolved by a simple computer recoding that the VW has come up with some time in October. Many Touareg TDI owners, including myself, do owe you thanks for fighting Ad Blue war with the Volkswagen. Early T3 owners like you pushed them to find what the real cause of the problem was. While you opted to get your money back from them, think about it as a victory not a retreat – we won! Good luck with your new vehicle!

Consumer -

It is fortunate that VW has resolved some the issues with their AdBlue system failures. Their service, attitude, and manner in which they handled my problems with the vehicle is why I will never own another VW. I LOVED the Touareg. It was a fantastic car aside from the AdBlue and trim issues.

I turned my Touareg back in to VW in Sept 2011. I have yet to buy another new vehicle.

Guess I will add my T-Reg to the list of vehicles that have experienced a problem with the urea tank. First, the engine light came on, had the car checked out but the garage couldn't repeat the problem. They cleared the code and the light came on again a few days later. Took it in again and this time, they replaced the urea tank (which was leaking) and some other parts. Got the car back and the light came on again. Took the car in and now they are now replacing the pump and some hoses. Does anyone know if the urea issue has an identified fix? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Apparently the problem is with the brain... not the system. But I do think that there are issues with the system components as well. Stay on them, call VW of America and file a complaint with them. The dealerships tend to give you better service once you open a claim with VW of A.

I own a 2012 vw touareg. Yesterday I took it in for the second time since Oct 2011. My touareg only has 2500 miles on it & already been in the shop twice! Is my car always going to have problems?? The first time it was a temp heat sensor now it's adblue. Does anyone have any advice??

tlenzen - Contact VW of America. File a complaint with them. That sometimes makes things happen faster on the dealership end. You need to look up the lemon law in your state so you know what your rights are.

yeah, before you go off the deep end and call in VW corporate keep in mind that once you do this, the dealer will follow exact procedure and ONLY do exactly as instructed by VW and won't go over and above on their own. Why would they do anything else? They will park it in the corner of their lot until some corporate person figures out what to do... Odds are this will introduce more of a delay in getting anything fixed.

I had this adblue issue early on, my dealer tried something - it didn't work,i went back in and then they just replaced the whole system end to end. Haven't had an issue since - that was > 30K miles ago.

Yes, they have sold 600,000 of these and everyone who owns one brings it into the shop every 1200 miles for a repair. Its a hassle to own one since I've got to drop it off at the dealership every 2nd week. I'd advise buying a 2nd vehicle so you can drive it while the Touareg is in the shop.

Just a crazy idea here - have you spoken to the service manager at your dealership?
