I have a 2010 TDI touareg with a little more than 51k was driving heard noise car went completely dead luckily not far from my parents I had my generic scan tool pulled a p0087 low rail pressure and will not restart what's the best worst case scenario of failures luckily I did not hit anything went it died on me.

the thing is i buy diesel from this station week in and week out and this never happened before do you think vw will cover an failures in fuel system? My vehicle has still 5/60 powertrain active do you think they will try to get out of this? thanks for the inputs.

If they suspect contaminated fuel caused a failure, they'll want to blame it on the fuel supplier, or misfueling by the driver. That's why you want to to get your own untampered sample of fuel, maybe with a witness to confirm that it came from your tank. If the sample is clean, look for some other cause. If the sample is dirty, go after the fuel supplier.

And I don't want to alarm you but possibly screwed in excess of $10,000 if it is the HPFP system and if VW don't play ball hence the VITAL IMPORTANCE to get an independent fuel sample drawn off the car ASAP and lodged with a reputable person/organisation just in case.

First suggestion.....inspect the fuel filter. Maybe before you fueled up the station received a shipment of fuel which stirred up all the crap in their tank and you got a lot of that bad fuel. Or their fuel tank was low and you filled up with a lot of crap fuel from the bottom of their tank. Enough emulsified water/fuel can clog a fuel filter, plus the additional crap like algae, etc. The P0087 code is low rail pressure and not definitive for HPFP failure, but possible. There are also 2 fuel pumps prior to your fuel filter which one may have failed causing insufficient fuel flow to the HPFP. Hence, low rail pressure.

This is the one thing that concerns me with the TDI. One bad tank of diesel and lights out for the HPFP?

Good luck with all of this. Hope it ends well for you T22 - and Jseimonski

Ok got call from service writer they stated hpfp went out and damaged fuel system so pretty much new fuel system. They did not blame anything on me they simply covered it and i should have my car back in 2 days roughly they are getting parts. Question for you guys now with all these new components whats likelyhood of this happening again after being repaired now with new parts? Thanks for the input.

Keep the warranty going!

Questions for op.

1 Are you the original owner?

2 What state do you live in? The reason I ask is that some states have no mandate for b2 b5 ect. B2 (2% biodiesel) has much better lubricating properties that straight diesel.

3 Have you used a fuel additive?

4 Are you saying the repair is being covered under the VW power train warranty?

Contact Chris for the best price on the platinum warranty.
