Yeah I know its a Chevy, but I'm liking the new Camaro...saw one live and in person and its stunning. 426 horsepower is very appealing too.

Alright, let me have it for having some Camaro lust!

Trust me, you won't be hearing any grief from me. As a lot of my family has worked for GM and/or Delphi at one time or another, I've been a GM fan for a long time. I also really dig the new Camaro. While the design of it is retro-influenced, it is modern enough to not just be a remake. They had a black version at the LA Auto Show last fall that was really sharp, and it was a really clean, attractive appearance package. Copious doses of horsepower never hurt, either. A lot of what I've read about it has all been positive, with one review (I think C&D) going as far as to compare the base V6 Camaro with the Mustang V8 performance-wise.

Also, as a former F-Body owner ('95 Trans Am w/275-horse LT1, 6-speed, T-tops, no mullet :) ), it's nice to see another pony car from the General.

It looks to me like more of the same old reasons why GM and the entire American Auto industry is circling the toilet. Will we ever leave the 80's and 90's designs? I like looking at my Touareg almost as much as I love driving it.

Just my two cents...not adjusted for recession, deflation or inflation.

Actually, we're still stuck in the 68-72 era, not the 80s or 90s. There's something to be said, though, for 304HP V6 @ 29mpg, 400HP V8 @ 25mpg, and 426HP V8 @ 24mpg. Of course, tire conservation isn't going to be a strongsuit. :D

In 68-72, you would have gotten 14mpg on a good day with the wind.

Now, if we could just get TDI diesel technology in our pick-ups and SUVs. Out here in rural America, electric vehicles just ain't gonna work.

I see it as late 60's influence as well....I've got a soft spot for the 68 Camaro/Firebird, my dad bought a firebird new in '68, had it while I was a kid then sold it off when i was around 5 or 6. I just always loved the look of that generation of pony car.

I'd never consider a camaro as a primary car...just something to destress with.

I can already see the Camaro forums.

Here we go...its the Touareg forums all over again. "I can't believe my extremely high horsepower, very high performance vehicle wears out tries and brakes quickly...it should be more like my hairdressers sisters friends Corolla, it gets 100K miles out of tires and brakes"
:p

;) It is one of those strange facts of life that the tires on a Corolla don't wear out any faster, even if you floor the Corolla at every opportunity.

The more and more I look at the 2010 Camaro the more I want one.
It is hard to believe the V6 can almost beat a V8 Mustang 0-60 time.
I can only imagine what the SS feels like when you hit the gas.
Dealers around here are trying to add 2-5k to the sticker.....crazy.
Time to sell the Subaru.....

Yeah, I might buy one too...I'm going to wait out the first model year to let the bugs sort themselves out.

I agree. I also think they will make some changes/upgrades after the first year run.

I have also been lurking on this Camaro site:

5thGen.org - 2010 5th Generation Camaro Forums

I spent about a year reading posts on this site before I pulled the trigger on the Touareg. By the time I bought I knew exactly what options I wanted and what I was getting into. It was nice how all those before me had "fixes" for all the issues.

Now there's an HP reality shock . . . Subaru => Camaro

Could be quite fun. And, the V6 will get better mileage. I read somewhere the Legacy GT was only 23mpg? Is that right? The 426 Camaro is rated 24mpg H/W.

I've been lurking on that same site as well, its a good site and hasn't been as bad as I expected it to be.. as for the Camaro it (or whatever I buy next) will be my mid life crisis car, so I'm looking at the SS version with 6 spd manual and 426HP. I am also scouring the aftermarket for supercharger kits.

Yes I do plan on being a late 30 something squealing my tires like I'm 16 years old again!

Give it some time and the sticker tax should disappear.

I read that some VW dealers tried to do the same thing when the first Touareg TDI's hit the lots. Most have backed off now.

It would be wild going from a 4 cylinder 250 HP boxer turbo to a 436 HP V8. Although I get the same feeling when behind the wheel of our V8 Touareg.
Although the Subie is fast there is no doubt in your mind it is working hard when it is pushed.

Right now I am averaging 21 mpg in the Legacy with mostly 90% city/suburbs driving and leaving it in sport mode with the occasional run in sport sharp mode. It also requires premium fuel. I probably would end up saving money on gas with the Camaro:D.

the new camaro has got my heart too! im no hater of american muscle, i love it love it love it! my dad had a 02 trans am black bird, that car was fast as crap, would let loose with a slight tap on the gas peedle and with the set of SLP headers and SLP full cat back exhaust you best believe it sounded nothing short of a race car. I would love to have that same feeling again. all i know is tuner cars i cant wait till im done paying off the treg! i have the itch for something fast and sporty.

Hall Chevy out in Western Branch of Chesapeake had a $20K mark up on their first one. After 2 days it was dropped down to 10K and a few days later it was sold, not sure what they got for it.

A friend ordered one from a Corvette dealer up in MI, will be shipped to Hall, he will have to pay them the normal processing fee. Got it for MSRP vice any mark up.

Interesting. That may be the way to go. Now if we could just get "13 year vet" to sell us some Camaros like the same great deals he is selling Touaregs for.......
Colonial Chevy wanted 2k over MSRP for the 2LT and 5k over MSRP for the 2SS. Priority wanted 7k over MSRP for any model.
I have also heard that Chevy already has 18,000 firm orders in process now. It will only be a matter of time before they are going for just under MSRP once the newness wears off.
