They are making a huge mistake IMO by not releasing these first cars with air suspension.

Completely AGREE!! I would have one in my driveway if they did... would even pay MSRP to get it.. but there are NONE. And i can't even order an 2010 with Air.. i have the order form and Air Susp isn't an option at this point (although there are some great changes for the 2010.. like metal trim inside instead of wood and a new Mocha colored leather interior.... but no Air Susp yet. And i was told i wouldn't get the car will Oct or Nov. I am about to fly out and drive back a 08 V10 cause that's the only car i can find with air susp right now. Audi did the same thing... no 09 Q7 TDI's with Air Susp... cause i would buy one if i could find it. I tow a big boat.. i need the air susp... why in the world would you make them all the same!!!

Vw getting red of air suspension in the touareg is the worst idea I could think of. If they do indeed delete it, my 2006 V10 will be my last touareg.

1K over invoice sounds like a fair deal...

Looks like Chris has some tough customers! And, I agree with most. If they could just combine some of the Japanese reliability with the great German engineering and looks the price wouldn't matter, eh?
We here are probably the easiest customers for chris, I believe that german and japanese cars cannot be compared as they are two completely different vehicles. Chris is a gentleman and the comments we make have nothing to do with anything that Chris has or hasn't done.

Well, I didn't think I was comparing Japanese cars to German cars. I was just trying to say that if the German automobile enjoyed the same consistent reliability for which Japanese cars are famous, there would be a far greater number of Touaregs on the highways because folks wouldn't feel better about paying such a high price for such a cool vehicle. My comment really had nothing to do with Chris personally, I don't know him at all, but he must be alright if he sells Touaregs! I was only trying to address the issue that most people consider the Touareg overpriced. BW, I just saw an '09 TDI that the dealer marked up 10k from the sticker. That's 61k for a Treg that doesn't even have air suspension or locking rear diff! This is insane. The dealer is crazy and VWof A shouldn't let this be done. It looks like some GM managers have moved in over to VWofA. Chris's offer sound quite reasonable to me all things considered.

I agree that a 10k dollar mark up is ubsurd, especially in this market. I truly believe that people scare away from German cars and go to the "reliable" Japanese car because of the old way of German cars. I think that our new Vw's as a whole are extremely reliable and have a good track record. Another thing that scares people away is the astronomical amounts that are charged from servicing at the dealer, the numbers are ludicrous and personally I think that the "free maintanance" for 3 years and 36k miles is a cop out. An easy way to lower the original factory warranty on a new car so that the customer either has to pay outright to fix issues with the car earlier or the need for more extended warrantees. I drive my touareg 30k miles a year or so, as many members on here and the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty is a joke.

Hi there,
the pricing discussion is interesting. Based on a 100k gross salary the trouareg is about 45%-50% of the annual salary.
Compared to the income for the same job the touareg is about 80-85% of the annual gross income in Germany.
I now have a touareg here in the US. In Germany I would never ever have thought about it...

I saw a VW TV ad last night that stated something about maintainance free ownership for 2009's. I didn't catch all of the commercial but there was a new CC shown. If they follow through with this in the Touaregs they'll be on par with BMW and Land Rover. I believe both have a 5 year "no cost to owner" program. Funny ad that poke fun at MB a little.

this no cost to owner/free maintenance scam is catering 100% to lease clients. The whole program is set up to show a lower overall cost of ownership over the lease period. Consumer reports types eat this crap up...

Why a shorter warranty period with free maintenance is more desirable that a longer warranty period with no maint. included is beyond me...

Got news for ya! The trannies in our Touaregs ARE Japanese... There are plenty of Japan parts in ours. The price IS fair, but I have to agree. I won't sell my Vr6 with air till I can get a replacement TDI with it. We've done the Colorado Rallye, several river runs in California, Mount Washington in New England and LOTS of Pa and Texas off roading. There simply ISN"T anything out there to compare the Touareg to in my opinion. Plenty of cars better in one aspect or another, but a V6 TDI with Air would be the Ultimate!!

And YES, I have towed a full 7700lb trailer cross country in my Vr6 and had ZERO complaints. The Air made a BIG difference in ease of ballancing loads too.

I have to agree that this seems like a fair price... i checked every dealer around me and no one would sell below MSRP. One dealer even wanted an extra 5K. I tried to order a 2010 (was ready to write a check).. but found out i couldn't get air :(. But from my research this is a fair deal (if the car worked for me i would buy it at the price without any reservations.) Dealers aren't getting kickbacks on the TDI.. so yes.. they need to sell them for more to make some $$$.. and yes.. it is okay for dealers to make $$$ on a sale.

(since i couldn't get a 09 TDI w/ air i went out and picked up an 08 v10 TDI.)

All the dealers got this exact model and color, supposedly with all the bells and whistles. Got to drive the one our local dealer had yesterday. I was underwhelmed with the performance which seemed equivalent to the V6 gasser, but more so with the stingy/spartan creature features.

At $52K I'd look for an late model used V10 instead if I were in the market for a diesel. The late year 04 V10 or 06 V10 are still the nicest in terms of features, fit and finish IMHO.

I'll be keeping my 04 V10.

Nancy.
