Mobil 1 0w-40 meets the same requirement VW asks for. The VW preferred oil is 5w-40 castrol syntec, but that can be hard to find sometimes.

 

do you happen to know the oil capacity?

 

Should be right around 9 qts.

 

I use Castrol Syntec 5W40, the 0W40 will result in a little bit of lifter noise I was told.

 

I had 6 quarts of Redline 10W40, and 2 quarts of 5W30, sitting in a box on my garage floor, so I used them all in my last oil change.

P.S. Ordered a case of Amsoil 5W40 European Car Formula, so I will be trying this out for the first time. Very good pricing, and you certainly can't go wrong with a Group IV synthetic.

 

castrol syntec 5w40, autozone has it, and it says on the bottle for vw, i used this in my audi a8 which has the same engine.

Today I had the Mobil 1 used for my gasoline engine but the oil was written diesel engines and the guy said this is fine. i am confused.

 

I went to Auto Zone and got the Castrol Syntec 5W-40 and STP filter. Change went fine aside from getting some oil on me. Re-used the crush washers without any issues. Treg seemed to run smoother after the change. AutoZone didn't have the Mobile1 0W-40. Oil and filter ran about $75 plus two hours of my time. Definitely the most involved oil change I've done. Should be quicker the next time around.
