So, after almost ONLY six years of dodging these Texas deer, I finally hit my first one tonight and with the V10 no less after all the the time it just spent in the shop. Bugger jumped out of tall grass in a turn. I had about two seconds to react. Stood on the brakes while gently flicking the steering towards the center line (no oncoming traffic). Deer took the right bumper and headlight square in the shoulder at around 40-50 mph and rolled off to the right. The wife was following right behind (she sent me ahead to 'part the waters' on our way back from dinner and watched the whole thing including the deer rolling of the side. I actually thought for a second she might rear end me!

My daughter in the back was surprised, but unhurt as was I. Fortunately no airbags and no apparent hood damage. Bumper skin show cracking in the paint where it flexed hard. A few gouges in the paint as it moved into various parts under the hood and around the headlight. All latching tabs on the bumper sheered on that side. Headlight lens is visibly cracked across the bottom. Lower trim is pushed out. Plastic above intercooler popped and looks to have gouged the intercooler and the plastic pipe across the top of the intercooler appears to be cracked. Wheel fender liner was pushed back into the tire at speed and popped where the screws pulled at it. Reflectors cracked.

But that's it. No airbags, no leaking fluids, no weird noises. All the lights still work. Despite being pissed for the deer hitting ME, the Touareg once again impressed me with its handling during an emergency braking maneuver. This is the second such maneuver after narrowly avoiding a near head on which required an QUICK lane change into the ditch.

She's being towed to the dealer for evaluation by insurance tomorrow. I don't want to risk damage if the intercooler is indeed cracked. Otherwise, it's drivable. Sigh.

I wish. I checked for him after but he had crawled off to die or I could not see him in the high grass. But venison steaks in the freezer from this springs hunt may be tomorrow's dinner. It seems fitting.

Wow. You only got some battle scars on the V10. You are lucky.

I once hit a small deer with my dad's v10.

I changed direction 3 times and he followed me so at the last moment I aimed to hit him with the wheel.

No damage at all.

The size of the deer was about this size. Hit him at about 65km/h

So glad to have a Treg now. Hit a small deer in a 530d only doing about 30mph.

Both headlights
Bumper/fender
Bonnet/hood
One wing

Was a mess

Despite the small chance of hitting one, I still drive through the forests at night, sh!tting myself

I've run into deer before but only in cars...they usually do major damage. Once again the Treg proves its tank-like status.

Glad to hear all is ok other than some damage to the wallet.

I had an experience just outside Princeton, BC Canada. Was coming back from Osoyoos in my Grey 08 v10. I caught the bugger ripping down the hill out of the corner of my eye, swerved at the last second to watch him in the side view mirror smash into the side of the boat I was towing.

Came to a stop at the local gas station. No damage, some blood on the boat and a few strands of hair on the touareg bumper no scratches.

I chalked it up to my "NOT THE TOUAREG" mentality.

Patted myself on the back nicely for that one

Those little hill country deer are no match for a Touareg. Glad no major damage to you or your family. Sounds like a good size bill for State Farm.

Did you stop and put the deer you seriously injured out of its misery? Or at least called the CO or RCMP to notify them?

At the chevron was an RCMP guy. I told him what happened and offered to help him move it. He said no worry he'll take care of it.

My dad told me to grab the deer and put it in the boat lol. Deer was done. Snapped its neck. it was a good heavy boat and the boat had 0 damage.

There's a highway between us and the forest. We see several deer/car collisions a year. Normally the deer are really careful about crossing the road. Totally different story if they're scared though. They don't even slow down for the fence if they're scared.

Glad you're ok and the Touareg is mendable. Two years ago we saw a guy in a 3/4 ton GMC 4x4 hit a deer so hard it knocked the deer's antlers off. Smashed the truck front back into the block. Air bags popped. Driver was ok. Your 'egg will be back on the road in no time. :)

The same happened with me the day when my older boy turned 19. My wife, 2 sons (19 and 1,5 years old in child sit), sons girlfriend and me took off to a restaurant and bugger came right across like it was waiting for me. I slammed on the brakes ( not with the full strengths so little one would not get too disturbed) and maneuvered to avoid, but the darn thing was just too determined to hit me. So finally, when my speed was <10 mph deer made a final jump and hit front passenger corner while i was already almost in the opposite lane. It got up, looked at me and went to the nearby ditch. No damage whatsoever, and i had to puor extra drink to my wife to calm her down.... All good!

Here in the UK the law states you cannot pick up any animal or bird you hit and kill.

However the guy in the car behind legally can!

LOL, that is funny! I do not even know how it is regulated here in Pennsylvania, though i do know well to not to touch the darn on thing unless you are looking to be infected by Lyme decease transmitting ticks!
