When I bought my V8 on Friday, the finance guy pitched me on VW's extended warranty and I declined, indicating that I'd consider a 3rd party warranty. He responded by stating that VW dealers don't like them because they aren't reimbursed promptly.

Is this bunk? When I went in today, they offered a VWOA "platinum" coverage 7 year, 100k warranty for $1600. Given the potential for expensive repairs in the Touareg, it seems like a good deal, vs saving $200-400 and going with an independent 3rd party provider.

Thoughts?

You have to check with the 3rd party warranty's payment policy.

The company I purchased my warranty from get's contacted from the dealership, finds out everything being replaced then give the dealership, what is effectively a credit card # and the dealership is paid within days after the repair.

My warranty cost my $1,000 less than the same VW warranty.

Next question, isn't VW's warranty done through a 3rd party company?

maybe its me, but I opted to not get the extended warranty at the dealership as I feel they made enough money on me with the purchase of the vehicle, even though we paid 2k under invoice. The finance officer was a little put off that we did not finance any through them. oh well. hehehehe. Wth all the specialized parts of the Touareg we want to research the 3rd party more extensively and what it covers exactly.

ext. warranty

Ask your dealers for info on the RealDriver coverage. According to the small print, it's administered by Fidelity Warranty Services (Florida). A previous car had Fidelity coverage and they were very good.

Fidelity warranty

I have a homeowner's warranty with Fidelity and they are terrible. Be very careful of this company. They have completely failed to honor their obligation to me and were very quick to say, "Sorry, the contract is not refundable and too bad that you are unhappy." I have contacted the attorney general, my legislative representatives, and the insurance commissioner about their practices. Too soon to tell if that will do any good.

I've been considering buying a Platinum Extended Warranty w/ exclusionary coverage the last few days and have called around to various dealers.

I got quotes from VW dealers trying to sell me Honda, GM, Ford and Universal Extended Warranties.

I called VW of America to get the real story. They gave me VW Real Driver's phone # to get info. I was told by Real Driver, (who handles the claims), that VW uses J,M & A (Jim Moran & Assoc.) They are connected with Fidelity Warranty service. The man I talked to stated that the VW name is printed on the top of this and that dealerships honor this warranty.

I called back the dealership I bought the car from, and although they can quote from JM&A, they prefer Ford or Universal. I talked to 2 guys and one said the owner had to pay from his pocket for some claims that JM&A didn't honor. That is why they don't use JM&A. However, after asking the second guy if this was true, he said he would not comment on that but they use Ford and Universal. (All the cars on the lot are covered by Universal)

I called another dealer and got a quote on JM&A coverage. I will list the quotes I got. I prefer to use the VW Warranty but will not be purchasing it from the dealer who I bought from, or will be servicing the car. I don't think it matters much.

Honda - 7 yrs, 100K miles, $100 deductible - $1993

Ford - 7 yrs, 75K miles, $50 deductible - $2795 :evil_laugh: :-s

Universal - 7 yrs, 100K miles, $100 deductible - $2295 (originally $2432 but he lowered it when I threw out other numbers to him)

J,M&A - 7 yrs, 100K miles, $100 deductible - $1986

Feels like I'm shopping car prices again! Sorry for the long post.

Fidelity Warranty

Yes, Fidelity is the same company that issues home warranties. Neither is their primary business. This company is the largest title insurance company in the country and their non title business is being spun off to a separate company in the near future. Their auto warranties may be handled differently, and hopefully, better. Their conduct with me on the home warranty side was nothing short of fraudulent and their customer service attitude was pathetic. Checking out other complaints on the web shows that my experience is not unusual. This company simply appears not to care and I would caution anyone about doing business with them.

Extended warranty

After an extensive research I have chosen a policy from online Warranty Direct (25 years in business), 7 years 100K with $0 deduct. (SecurePlus with Exost System plan) for $1575 (list costs were 1550+170). They list "exclusions" only.
