EBC Red

These can be real squealers and the heat from the kevlar/ceramic compound can warp rotors. At least the older compound did. Can take up to 1000 miles to break in they say. These are what kept me away from the Red.

Nominal friction rating 0.5 -- right in the middle of the G range. Availability for the application may be problematic.

Redstuff Brake Pads

Do low dust, GG pads exist?

I know that Siberian swears by KVR and their semi metallic Carbon Fiber formulation on his two Touaregs. I wonder what the friction rating on those pads is? Too bad Siberian not on here no mo.

Copy and pasted of KVR performance website:

KVR Performance delivers the superior stopping power of carbon fibre pads at prices affordable for everyday use. You'll get superior performance from our semi metallic carbon fibre pads; their metalurgical formulation exceeds all O.E.M. standards, creating a quiet running brake pad that performs with minimal increase in dusting. The perfect choice for Street Performance vehicles that may see occassional on-track action. Designed to compliment our O.E. Replacement Discs - works great with plain, drilled or gas slotted rotors.

KVR is a rebrander. They source from a number of different suppliers, mostly raybestos it appears.

Speaking of brake compounds, I am shocked at the difference in the T2 compound vs the T1...T1 brakes would last around 60,000kms for me, a bit shorter on the V10. They braked well but would dust an incredible amount.

Just swapped over to snow tires this weekend and I noticed i still have about 40%-50% of pad life remaining at 75,000kms on my T2. I don't get any dust either. Braking is a bit less agressive but its hard to find fault in the durability/no dust characteristics of the stock pads.

Yep huge difference, night and day in terms of dust and durability.

This sounds like VW switched to ceramic for the T2. The brake pads obviously are physically different too but Pagid still has formulations for them. For example 4.2L V8 FSI uses T2056 front (1LG,1LJ,1LW) and T1937 rear (1KJ,1KQ,2EG).

SamT that sounds about right..my T1s pads were a dark coloured compond, the T2s, are more of a brassy colour.

It would make sense if KVR is using EBC in Europe, because it is illegal to sell anything that is not ECE R90 certified.

However, what is not legal for sale in Europe can still be sold elsewhere. Buyer beware.

Sorry for bringing up the old topic;

Saw some posts saying that the OEM Pagid's are really good in stopping power but will throw a dust storm. I was on my way to checking out some all around Zimmermans and LTS pads front and rear. I'm more concerned about stopping power. At the same time I don't want to press the brakes a quarter way and end up being rear-ended.

I'll clean my rims all day. I just don't want to get some pads that will give me a broken nose from hitting it on the windshield.

First time I took the car home I tested the brakes and I ended up on the side of the road throwing up. The performance wore down a bit but the front pads have about 30-40% and the rears are about 50%. I have no idea what brand they are. The owner probably had it done at the dealership so I'm guessing the Pagids because I take a 20 mile trip and my rims are black.

I felt my rotors and they are noticeably all rigidy. I'm not complaining though, this beast has the best brakes I've seen.

Not to kill a dead horse here but I also swear by KVR pads/rotors. I have then on all my performance cars. There is a night and day difference in stopping power and distance. They are a rebranded pad made by carbotech. We are able to get them on our touaregs and I highly recommend them. I'm going to order a set as soon as mine stock ones are gone. Get the street carbon mix compound. You won't regret it. KVR does not sell them for our rides so you need to order directly from carbotech.

I'll look into them. So technically what are they made of? Just don't want to get a performance pad and wear through them within a month.

This is what I found on the site:

(I have the 18's)

I guess you recommend the most expensive haha.

I think that info on the 350mm discs is for V10s only.

The disc size does not vary for standard Touaregs.
