Thought I had a puncture , took the car to Bob Jane. When I went back said the leak was from a crack in the mag. They checked all mags and all show signs of cracking. The cracks are in the centre of the mag and in the opinion of Bob Jane are not from abuse !!

Mags are Victor Performance, and are supposed to be designed for Porsche ! Have order new stronger spun mags !! Be warned. will go to battle and see if I can get a refund on the Victor Mags , most likely cost more to get the money back then what I will get back.

Interesting, I assume these are the same as Victor Equipment in the USA market.

I was looking at them and wanted the 18 x 8 for some offroad tires but they would not sell the 8" width, had to go with the 9.5" width, said the narrower rim was not strong enough, so I did not get them.

What size are you running?

Yes these are Victor Equipment Mags, mine were the Zehn Mags. I was very surprised that they were cracked. I called the tire company they were most unhelpful. I will get the mags replaced and then proceed to get recourse for the faulty ones, my consumer experience will be logged on site of course.

My size was 20 x 10 and these are not strong enough even though they are advertised for Porsche !

I learnt some time ago that wheels (alloys) are classified as light duty and heavy duty. VW OEM alloys - many are light duty and not really suited to heavy off-road. Most drivers know little about this. It's a rating factor same as with tyres. Load rated wheels on 4WD = many go for steel wheels or get the correct specs on HD alloys if they go hard in the dirt.

Those are load rated to 1980 lbs according to their site:
Porsche Wheels | Victor Equipment | Inventory
Inputting style, finish, diameter, etc. will get you the info shown below.

I would be curious to see what the crack looked like if you could supply a pic or two.

And FYI Victor Equipment is a TSW wheel brand. WHEELS | TSW Alloy Wheels

Best wishes getting this matter resolved.

4WD is different to street driving, with a smallish load and passengers you would be about 2.7t (6,000 lb) - suspend one wheel and you are at the load rating capacity!

Well I have changed my wheels, had to go Victor Equipment again . The old rims were cracked on the inside bead on all wheels. Company sending back to importer to sort credit. Importer said they had not seen this before. Will be interesting to see if they give me the credit without a fight ?

This happened to my on my previous golf, but the rims were MaK. Bad quality.

snip Importer said they had not seen this before. snip
I wouldn't reasonably expect the importer to say anything else. Even if they HAD seen this failure before they are unlikely to admit it to you.

This is the new look, personally I prefer the black but they are not available now??

Bails, just a thought. Have you taken your beloved R50 to places perhaps where you should not? I'd agree that driving on some of our primary paved roads (including freeways/highways) and meeting up with potholes could probably stress a wheel, even induce a crack. I recall a while ago when some of the new cheap alloys were coming over here (I didn't say Chinese), there were cracking problems; going back maybe 8 years ago or so. They seem to have that sorted now.

Well Wheels are rated at 1980 pounds, thinking back I remember 2240 lbs to the ton. I believe the Treg weighs in at 2.7 ton , so Weight is 6050 lbs. Corner weight is 1512 lbs which I am told is how the calcs are done. Now these cracks are only recent so most loaded the car has been is trip to Frazer Island so if I add another 1000 lbs for luggage and passengers I should still be under.

No sharp rough roads , sand on F.I. I would think this is an issue that the rims although rated can't take the weight, however they are advertised as suitable for Q7 , the Pepper and Porsches. I would think a 7 seat V8 TDi Q7 fully loaded would be heavier that a R50 with 5 adults? Perhaps this is a sfety issue that needs further investigation before a family in a Q7 goes off road with broken wheels.

They look like 21 or 22" rather than the 20" that bruk. What size are they, John
20" John with 275 x 40 Coopers. 21" dod not allow me to fit an off road type tyre.

Oh dear Bails, do you drive the R50 with the nice wheels today or ride the zoom, zoom bike instead? Bugger, I just drive the Caddy to work most days.....boring! Our local VW dealer principal has one of the last R50's...nice clean white. Just drives it around town...that's it, just town.....barely above idle I'd suggest too.

Well the Sun is out so I think the Ducati will get a run. My R50 has seen a lot of dirt , and of course recently lots of sand. I tell you Oil it will be hard to part with this vehicle, I still can't find another car I'd rather , that's not to say I won't. I really like some of the features of the Jeep, but power train lets it down , the new V8 version of the R50 looks interesting but no 4 X Motion !
