The A/C on my 2006 V6 Touareg works fine for short trips and for about the first 100 miles I drive. Then it ceases to function. It acts like it is functioning when on auto, fan goes to high and I can hear a roaring from the air distribution system, but little air comes out, and it it not particulary cool. I've had it to the dealer, and they can find nothing wrong. One more clue - I've noticed condensate drainage puddles long after I shut the car off. Perhaps the condensate is draining too slowing, and condensate collecting in the condensor is inhibiting the air cooling? I've never had any condensate inside the cabin, that it working correctly.

Anyone else ever had this problem?

Maybe your expansion valve is freezing up, when this type of thing happens that would be the first thing I would check. The dealer is not going to find this type of thing unless they would spend a lot of time with it thus the driving 100 miles to duplicate the issue and very very few would be willing to do that.

I'm going to go a different direction, and says it's the compressor. A semi-weak point with these big, hot engines.

You should NEVER need to add any sort of freon with these units, unless your system is shot.

My 04 V8 has done it a couple of times on hot humid days during long drives. I put it on Econ until the evaporator thaws and it's good to go for a few more hours. I've experienced this with other Euro cars: Audi A6, BMW 7, and Saab 900. But never happens on my trusty old 95 Tahoe.

If it's the compressor you will not hear it clicking on and off (could be blown gasket) if you do hear it very often then could be expansion valve or low refrigerant. You need to take it somewhere to check both the high and low pressure port. UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING; DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONNECT TO THE HIGH PRESSURE PORT.

A/C blower

I am having the same problem with my 05 V8. A/C works fine cold and comes from the dash vents with full output but after a while or on a longer trip the output changes from the dash vents to the footwell, still at a high volume with lots of noise like the air is trapped. This has happened both in A/C and heat / defrost modes. But in both cases the heat was still hot and the A/C was cold just poor output and not from the dash.

Any ideas?

Interestingly, the V10 aircon packed up after the Simpson- as well as after the CSR treks. The technician thinks it is probably a "bent pipe" due to engine movement hitting a "non-moving" aircon pipe. Will have it checked out when back in Perth, and try and get it fixed under warranty.

Hi from Holland !

I had the same problem (2004 V:cool: it was the sensor from the evaporator (7 euro).
About 15km it was frozen and no air is coming out any more, after stop it works again.
You can see a lot of water under the car........

This sensor is located near the evaporator and you can easy change him (passenger side /under the dash).
