AFAIK Honeywell is the OEM maker of the V10 turbos, not Garrett.

That and every other one is for a Chineese knock off. Which my brother had ordered one for this Cummins and it did well until he sold it 20K later so who knows.

Honeywell was the stamping on the turbos that came out of mine...Honeywell owns garrett so its possible they are marketing replacements under the garrett brand. When the V10 TDI was released they were one of the first applications of the Honeywell VNT technology.

The latest honeywell application list shows that the 3.0TDI for the US market is also a honeywell turbo...Garrett supplies the turbos for the 4 cyl 2.0 and 1.9 TDIs that we've been getting but they aren't shown on this list. Makes me suspect that honeywell keeps the two brands separate.

I'm bringing this back up becuase the heads are comming off of my V10 in the very near future and I beleive when they come off I will reveal I can reach my turbo's and down pipes. If this is the case and while I'm in here I need to find someone who can build a hybrid turbo for me. After this much tear down and machining work I might as well get the work done. Maybe expensive and my budget is limited, but I think it may be worth it and it can't be that much. It might take me 6 months to get this thing running but I guess I'm not in a huge hurry.

Kerma supplies a complete hybrid turbo for the 1.9L with manifold for 1400. I think with the cores it should only be around 500 bucks to get a new compressor wheel put on and possibly some other small mods.

Does Custom Spooling on here actually do Turbo work as his name implies? If so I'm sure he could come up with something and map along side his ECU upgrade.

If anyone knows of any TDI gurus in the Savannah GA area or close by let me know. Maybe after 8 years on the market we can finally get this V10 touareg going in the right direction.

Again I'm not looking for tractor/dyno pulling here. I just want to add as much reliable power as possible so the truck can do everything it was designed for.

What is the stock boost level for these turbo's? What EGT's is the car usually running? Has anyone been able to find a map for them?

The Race 783 injectors would be an injector upgrade for our current injector.

Kerma sells them as does a few other places. Bosio Race 783 Pumpe Duse "Race" nozzles | Kerma TDI

I did email a custom turbo place near me Blouch turbo but never heard back.
Blouch Performance Turbo

A phone call would be worthwhile I think, especially if there are a bunch of us that are interested. They have done tons of audi/ vw stuff.

There used to be a guy on the TDI Club forum - name of Street Toys (or one word - I don't remember for sure). I haven't heard anything from him for a while (since I bought my hybrid compressor wheel for my ALH motor) but he seemed to be VERY knowledgeable. If you can get hold of him you can find out a lot.
Another lead to a source is Aaron at bleachedbora http://shopping.boraparts.com.He might be able to give you other leads.
Good luck.

I found a place that can make us hybrid turbos. They are popular on TDIClub.

They use brand new garret VNT parts. I emailed them and asked if it is OK to post their email here so people can contact them. If so I'll post it up later...

That is excellent. As long as their prices are inline with other companies it shouldn't be to much. Should be less than 500 a turbo. Even if I don't get my heads off in the next couple of weeks the engine is getting dropped. Eitherway I can reach the turbos. I guess I'll be the first to try :)

Now if there was a company that was reasonable on the injectors. I remember my old diesel mercedes injectors are around 30 a piece to get rebuilt, my powerstroke which is a complicated was around 100 a piece and that was with an upgrade to stage one after rebuild. To charge 150 for the nozzles and then an additional 150 per injector to inspect is insane in my mind. I might just go the nozzle route and hope my injectors are still doing fine.

Here you go...

With a hybrid turbo, you will see an increase in both power and torque figures. Generally an increase in torque low down and an increase in power through the mid-range to the top end of the rev range. Normally with little or no “drop off” at the top end.

The upgrades we would look at doing would include a larger compressor wheel with the compressor cover modified to suit, modified turbine wheel to aid flow, uprated kit parts where possible, staggered gap piston ring to alleviate any possible leakage through use of a free flow exhaust system and full blue printing of the turbo during re-assembly. Of course, the final spec will depend on how far you wish to take the performance.

Price wise, I would envisage these units to cost somewhere around ÂŁ1400 or $2150 per unit (payment can be accepted in either currency), shipping will be approximately ÂŁ85.00 or $130.00.

Please feel free to post my email address on the forum and I will be more than happy to answer any questions other users may have!

I look forward to hearing from you

UK. bummer. I was really hoping for something in the U.S. Plus with those prices I'm guessing they are not using our cores which there is really no point for. Even Kerma only charges 1400 for their hybrid and that is a new turbo and no core.

The exchange rate defeats any Euro parts supplier even if it is a good deal. Add on top of that shipping and it isn't worth it. Plus I would like to support a U.S. Vendor and there are hundreds of shops around this country that CAN do this work. Just finding one that WILL do it is another story.

Anyone have any ideas for someone in the U.S. that will use our cores and do the work?

I am very interested in where this thread is going. I will be making custom catless downpipes for my car then getting a tune for it. I really don't want to do a tune while I still have cats in place. I am also interested in upgraded turbos and fueling... Keep the updates coming!

Well I finally found a company that will look at the turbo and has the ability and the background to build it up.

He was actually very happy to hear about theTouareg. He knew of it's existence but has never worked on it. He said he is not aware of what parts are available for this turbo but said upgrading the compressor shouldn't be to hard. Upgrading the turbine side he said could be very difficult though as they don't leave a lot of room for upgrade in the variable guide vane turbo's.

I am going to ship it off to him and if he says he can make it better he will and if not he will tell me straight up that it isn't worth it.

As soon as I know if it is doable or not I will post up the companies name that way they don't get a bunch of calls for nothing. If they get something though, I think this is going to be a great U.S. Company to work with.

Looks like I might be selling my 56 Ford so I can pay for some turbo's and bigger injectors.
