My 2004 v6 Touareg is stuck in 3rd gear, there is no vw dealership in this part of the world. I took the car to a local mechanic he used a vagcom to reset the system and everything was fine for a while and then the same problem again. Would appreciate if any one can help.

What codes came up before he did the reset?

Found this in another thread. Seems relevant to your situation sohail.

TT-06-63
2004-2005 Touareg, Gearbox DTCs

DTC P0753 (0025 Solenoid Valve N88 Open / Short in Address Word 02 “Gearbox Electronics” can occur on MY 2004 and certain early MY 2005 Touareg vehicles. The root cause of the complaint is that the harness is too short, causing wire strands to break internally within the harness near the T14e connector. Do NOT replace the TCM or the Valve Body for this DTC; instead, perform the following steps:
* Disconnect the T14e connector from the transmission
* Back out pin 1 (yellow) from the T14e connector about 12 inches above the transmission connector
* Butt-splice a new wire from the VAS 1978 Wiring Repair Kit, ensuring an additional 1/2 inch of extra overall harness length.
* Re-pin the wire to the T14e connector and re-attach the harness connector to the transmission.

Who says an extra half an inch doesn't make all the difference!!

Changed the entire wire harness. problem solved
How hard was it to change and how much did it cost?

Who needs a Dealer when you have this Forum..Nice to hear a good outcome Sohail..

This forum is such a blessing! I have found solutions for almost every problem. In my country there is no VW dealer and i have to rely on local mechanics who have very little knowledge about Touareg. With this forums help i guide the mechanic who then fixes the problem.

For the entire harness change it costed me about $70

You may not get a reply - this thread was last active 2 years ago.

Go and talk to your VW dealer.

Today, while I was driving the Treg I noticed a hard UPshift from 4th to 5th....Then going uphill the car wouldn't downshift at all...I tried tiptronic...same, it wouldn't change gears...since I was going really slow the car felt like it couldn't continue going uphill in fifth so I stopped on the side and turned the car off....I started her up immediately hoping for a reset and it shifted normally ever since...Could this be the beginning of something similar to this thread's topic?

Valve body/chest.

The valve chest issue normally manifests itself with a huge THUMP going from 5th to 4th just as you move from a light trailing throttle at about 35-40 mph to giving the accelerator pedal a slight squeeze to gently maintain speed as you meet an incline.

The THUMP is so big it scares the living daylights out of you as you think the gearbox has just fallen out of the car!

The valves stick briefly in the worn body of the valve chest and the delay mistimes the gear change thereby causing the THUMP.

Try doing a gearbox reset.

Turn the ignition on.

Do NOT start the engine.

Press the accelerator to the floor and hold it there firmly for 10 seconds.

Release the pedal.

Turn the ignition off.

Regardless I would put the car on VCDS [as you always should anyway before doing a gearbox reset] to see if any faults are recorded.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same symptoms on my 2008 Treg. Does anyone have the part number for this T14e harness? Called VW parts and they can't find anything. Anyone have a part number or a photos showing which connector/harness it is? Thanks
