All buttons work, even if the buttons for heated seats are impulse based now, it remembers the last setting after you restart the car. It sounds like I m selling this gps but I’m really happy with this purchase because I know how long and how much money i have spent to finally have what I wanted, and if you re looking for a fine android unit for this car, this one it really is the best and the only choice you can make and I m really glad to share with you. The only downside on a treg T1, is that the MFD doesn t show any info. On a Treg from 2007 oneards, you can control the climate from it, you can get the parking aid sensors info when you are reversing and the backup camera is on,you can see and control any parameter on the can bus, thats why I’m trying this can bus update. Cheers!
Hi Treg-Mates! I found ClubTouareg while searching for various head unit options for my 2007 Treg I recently bought. Man, what a resource! I'm very intrigued by the HengCheng unit that Ovydiks recommended from AliExpress. Looks like they offer an even newer 2021 model with 6Gb/128Gb Octocore and 4GLTE (although compatibility with your carrier's 4G bands would be questionable, but who needs it with Apple Carplay/Android Auto). I'm going to do some more exploring on Ali and see. Would love any feedback/reviews from those who have purchased this or similar head units in the last year or two. Especially interested in anyone who found a workaround for the MFD loss, or a unit that is compatible. Exactly what MFD data no longer displays? I suspect the MFD is displaying data from multiple sources. ~Thanks!

I’m in similar boat and the AliExpress hengcheng support stated that it doesn’t integrate with MFD. so curious to understand what you ended up buying ?

I have a Nakamichi NA3605 and now the proper canbus converter to ensure SWC and since my OEM HU doesn't have any speakers out in the quadlock, it's got line out of the OEM HU to the OEM digital amp sending to the 11 speakers. The current advice is wire the 4 speakers out of the aftermarket HU through a 9 wire extension to splice into the speaker wires coming out of the amp. Thus resulting in bypassing the amp and killing off 7/11 speakers.

What is the voltage coming through the line-in to the amp? We would lose the fader/balance idea but essentially combine the speakers out of the aftermarket HU and adjust the voltage and plug into the audio signal inputs on the amp, thus leaving the amp intact and letting it do it's work to the 11 speakers.

Or have I lost it as a mad scientist?

Okay... wanna hear something cool?

I installed a Nakamichi NA3605 into my 2004 Touareg with an OEM amp and have all 11 speakers natively singing beautifully. Lots of research, questions, tech support and trial and error, but it's done. Steering wheel controls, Apple CarPlay, mic, navigation (apple) and all.

Essentially, I used a CRUX SWRVW-52 canbus unit, (set to pioneer dip switches with their pioneer native â…› plug back into the PAC/SWC control on the head unit) and wired the RCA L/R front out into three wires (negatives together, positives separate) and then to pins and into the proper wires in the quadlock in the dash. I knew which wires since I got the colour codes from the amp L-audio-in+, R-audio-in+, LR-audio-in-negative. Found those wires in the dash/quadlock and took an old RCA red/white, cut one end, combined wires into pins, stuck them into the quadlock and voila - beautiful sound.

At first, I combined speaker wires out of the HU into those three pins and it was super quiet. But, that also meant the canbus amp turn-on was working. Upon advice, I tried the RCAs in hope of not having to get a Line Output Driver to increase/decrease the volume... it worked.

The common thinking has been to take a 9-wire extension from the 8 +/- speaker wires and splice them into the wires after the amp. However, this will only give you 4 speakers. So, I thought, go in before the amp and get the app to do it's work to the 11 speakers. Yep.

Massive call outs to @Mancubus @allen-wong and @marshatherton for the awesome work, details, attempts, products, and pioneering. It helped a ton!

Here are some pictures of tools, schematics and results. Reach out if I can be of service. I am not an electrician, nor a mechanic... just smart enough to try and stupid enough to believe it might work. The picture of three pins with all the speaker wires didn't work. the picture with the three pins sorta worked - until I figured out I was using a female RCA cable (duh), the image of the back (wire soup) is the one that worked. JupiterOpal, I haven't bought a new head unit yet. Been dealing with other issues so that project is on the back burner. However, I'm intrigued by what SonicBoom has posted. I'm leaning toward a Kenwood/JVC head unit, but still shopping. Let us know if you select/install a head unit and how the install went. Cheers!

@keithb98294_07Treg I used a Nakamichi. That won't matter as much as the connectors. Depending on what Quadlock connectors you have behind your OEM. My 2004 used Line Out to push everything to the amp (PN ending in 466) and my 2005 had speakers out to the amp (PN ending in 456). I just replaced it today with a junker one and all 11 speakers are back (yay). I had tried putting my 2004 version in but didn't do anything. I had to go find a 456 one - even out of a 2008 and it works.

If you look at the image "1.JPG" above, that will tell you which set up you need. See the space in the top right? That's where the speakers usually go. In my 2005, I have a plug there, in my 2004, I don't.

The only difference the head unit will make is if it has CarPlay or Android Play and then what your adapter for the CANBUS will be.

Lemme know.

(edit for clarity) This is what the quadlock looks like with speakers (vs mine from above)

Been reading through and seeing a lot of options for upgrading the unit to get car play/use the steering buttons/backup camera. Wondering if anyone has tried using a dashcam/carplay combo with an aux connection to the stock radio. Sounds like replacing it is a lot of work/ a lot of wiring and possibilities of battery drain. If so, looking for the adapter. Tried a few.
