Yes alright, Singh, we had planned to take the Treg on our current travels but we have only had it a short time and ran out of preparation time. Before we take it out to play we are sorting tyres (6x245/70/17 ATR on a set of Cayeene wheels), UHF radio, rear window protection (we tow), extra fuel stowage etc. We managed some of this but was not complete before we had to leave to meet others. There have been many times when we wish we had the Treg. Dont get me wrong the GU does the outback stuff well but it is a bit of a truck, if you know what I mean. Next time. KT

Fair enough KT, enjoy it.

on another note I hear that the K1 line is now closed indefinitely, so taking the French line straight up, using the shortest route could be on the cards.....

Hi all, a reminder, desert parks pass will be required for this trip($110)... Department for Environment & Heritage
Apparently you get a good map/info with this pass as well.
as mentioned by many the going is slow thru the desert section, 20kmph at 20psi. Latest reports on road conditions are positive, with many sections having been regraded.
We'll hopefully find out this week if VW Oz will be supporting and/or coming along.
Also, 4*4 australia have another article on Simpson in the July edition, seems like this is adventure is on top of every offroaders' list
Only 6 weeks to go!!!

Hi,
Only four weeks to go, we meet at Mildura on the 6th of August, so could everyone please reconfirm if you are coming for this trip. We need to finalise the plans, numbers and also confirm with VW.
Thanks, Singh

I'm in 100%

Bring it on.

Regards

Gerald

great stuff Gerald, that makes two of us! we are definitely going then! :)
now who else is coming along??

Hi Singh, we had faint hopes of being able to come along but it isn't looking promising at the moment. We would virtually need an exchange of contracts on this place next week and with no one seeming all that interested at the moment I guess we'll have to wait for another opportunity. Have a safe and great time all. John

At this stage I have to say no (bugger), but I still have a month to try and secure working arrangements to change it to a yes. I will give my yea/nea by middle of month - if it's ok with you, Singh.

Shame to hear you may not be able to go wannabe. Regardless of what you do, just think of me slugging it out on the Avon Descent.....

My intentions are to tag along until we get to the bad dirt. I still need wheels and tyres for this thing and haven't had time to work on getting the truck more off road ready.

Thanks guys, we have confirmation from three Treggers, thanks Les. Awaiting Werner to confirm.
All the best with your purchase John, I'm, hopefully, in the process of doing the same myself.

Bails, it'll be great if you come along for as much possible, its clear proper wheels/tyres are important.

We are also in. Linda and myself are keen to go. We will be off the air for the next week or so from tomorrow am early, so wont be able to chat. We should be able to get service again about 12/7.

I assume from earlier that the route is now Mt Dare, Dalhousie Springs, French Line to Poepells Corner then to Birdsville.

We have a bit to do from when we get home till we go again to meet at Mildura but are sure we can sort all that, cant miss this one.

I assume that details of program, meeting times/place, proposed staying on the way etc will come later via this forum or by direct email ?????

Bring it on,
KT

great to hear KT, the confirmed number stands at 4! or 4.5 inc Bails ;) as he'll might be doing only a certain bit.
Yes, given some latest reports the direct approach - French Line across to Poepells sounds good. We'll share the details thru the forum.
VW are now aware of this trip and will hopefully soon confirm their participation. If your local dealer is supportive KT then no harm in asking them.

Hi,
If anyone wants to spend more time getting out there and checking out Coober Pedy/surrounds then you can choose to leave your home city early and meet the group at Coober Pedy on the 7th of August, as we'll be leaving for Dalhousie Springs(via Oodnadatta & Hamilton) on the 8th.
Just a thought for those who havent been to Coober Pedy before.
