Hi, Just a note to say hello to you on Club Touareg :D. Took delivery of my V6TDI a week ago and am enjoying every kilometre of driving in it. Traded in a GU Patrol diesel for it and am impressed by the step up in quality and refinement the Touareg has to offer.

Had to wait since December for delivery as I needed some factory fitted accessories included such as a rear wheel carrier (suspicious of the space saver spare), tow bar and fog lights, but the wait has been worth it.

Would also like to express my appreciation to those on the Club Touareg forum who openly share their advice and information about their cars. I had taken the liberty to regularly read your comments on the forum as being an invaluable source of information that ultimately led me to deciding to purchase a Touareg instead of a Landcruiser 200 series or a Discovery 4.

I hope in due course to meet some of you out and about in this great country of ours. Perhaps a members get together in the Brisbane area might be a thought.

Cheers !!

G'day BobK, nice to hear another patrol convert has joined the ranks (myself included). There are a number of treg owners in the se corner of Qld. I have as yet to meet any in the flesh myself but working towards it. Congrats on your choice of vehicle, they are somethig special. John

x2
I went from GU Patrol diesels (1998 then 2001, each sold after 3 yrs and 200,000km++) to the R5 Touareg in 2005. I also waited for delivery with the factory spare (only the 18th one in Oz). Never wiped the smile off my face in 4 years of Tregging. Warning, it's a one-way ticket - you'll never be happy with a Nissan or a Toyota again:)
Welcome and enjoy!

cheers,
..Neil

Welcome x3.
I brought mine last year SH, also had a Landcrusier and couple of Discovery's, my dad has a GU Patrol diesel and wants a Treg REAL bad ever since I got mine! As the others have said you have now been spoilt and will never go back! Congrats on your new purchase!

Welcome x4 Bobk - and well done on waiting patiently for 'your' car. Yes I am another GU Patrol convert. Had my Treg since October last year and absolutely love it.

Wel done Bobk. Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of Treg ownership. Guarranteed to keep a smile on your face every time you drive it.

Slightly off-topic remark: How do you guys who've had Patrols and Landcruisers now rate the Touareg as an off-road car? Had a few odd looks from people when ive told em i'm going to take ours off the beaten track, usual comment being "has it even got 4WD"? I have to convince them its got low-range as most seem to think its just a wagon on steroids!

Do you rate it as a capable off-roader?

Firstly Welcome Bobk, you are in for a great treat . I am now on my second Touareg and this is the first time ever I have purchased the same vehicle and model twice,
Samblers I have owned 60, 80 and 100 series Landcruisers , also Nissan G series, Landrovers , IIA series , Subaru's and I don't know what else. Grew up in the Bush and have driven a lot of dirt tracks. For non destructive stuff , ie: rough roads I'd rate the Treg as good at getting in as any Landcruiser I've had. On the beach I think it better, hi speed dirt roads better. The cruiser beats it with Bull bar scub bar protection type stuff but I don't see myself doing this type of work. For a Genuine 4WD with car like ergonomics I think there is no better vehicle, and I mean Range Rover , Mercedes , and the rest. I am Biased perhaps !

Bobk, welcome, good to see another fellow Brissy t'reg. Everyone else has already covered what I was going to write, so I'll just squeeze this one note for you, choose a good workshop to support the car.

A QLD GTG would be good, except for me this year, I've committed to a trip to see the Mt Isa Rodeo, and a walk on the NSW Main Range, so my holidays are used up (and I've got to squeeze in 5 days on Moreton for a trip we've won as well). But if someone put in the hard yards, I'll keep my eye out.

Thanks !

Hi all fellow treggers,

Thanks for your kind welcome to Club Touareg. :D Looking forward to sharing driving experiences as time goes on. After driving in Landcruisers, Hiluxes, Navaras and Patrols of various types, have to admit that driving the Touareg is in a class by itself. :D Already I have a friend who after taking my Treg for a short spin thought about trading in his late model GU patrol and the wife for a Touareg !

Cheers !

I am also a Nissan convert. I made the mistake of test driving the Touareg and then had to purchase one. I was lucky to be able to get an ex demo model and picked it up the following week and got a very good trade in on my 4.2 TD GU Patrol. I thought I would never part with that Patrol, but after one drive of the VW it was not a hard decision. It is easy to drive the Touareg around the city and then also great for towing a horse float. Have fun with yours.

Congrats! I'm on my 2nd Touareg. You won't look back after you've driven one! :)

Welcome BobK, Same had a Nissan patrol GU for 11years and brought the touareg in september last year. It is magic to use in the bush. Remember it is always only the first scratch which hurts. Enjoy
Cheers Brent

Welcome Bobk.

I had always assumed Patrol and Cruiser owners were more hardcore and they view the A/4WD market to be those 2 models only. I have lost count now, but each time I go camping up the high Country I get into a freindly debate about why I drive a V10 Touareg. I get told you are mad taking this off-road.

After an hour or so, they soon realise they don't have half the things my V10 has on board and by the time they do, it costs them around the same and it still drives like a truck on H beams.

Seriously, it's my first and I don't want to get rid of it now.

Sad, but true. I don't worry so much about scratches but the first one did hurt

Enjoy the drive, we do.

Regards

Gerald

I got my first scratch at Skilled Stadium by a rabid geelong supporter. And we didnt even win.

got my first scratch/dent on the V6, with only 3000kms on the clock I reversed into a branch while offroad .....the track around Yalwal (Nowra) was quite interesting. the branch was just at the 'wrong' height, above the rear sensors and below the rear glass.
that hurt!
but have cherished every other moment putting the Touareg to its limits :)

Don't want to start a new post, so speaking of dents - I have a few as a result of a hail storm we had in Perth in March this year. Before then the Treg was dent free. I just got the car assessed last week (that's how busy the assessors are here in WA). Waiting for the paperwork to confirm but most of the dented panels need replacing !!!

... and the current verbal quote to repair is around $10K ! At least they didn't want to write it off. I'm quite attached to this one....
