Seems like the general consensus is that HID's don't like being switched on and off too often. That's why they're not used for "flash to pass" signalling and also why a lot of members switch their DRL's off to preserve bulb life, correct...?
I'm considering an HID upgrade kit for my Halogen equipped T1, but my question is, what to do with the Auto Lights function? My Treg is parked in the garage and my Auto Lights and Coming Home lights are permanently switched on. So every time I start the Treg, day or night, the headlights come on. During the day as soon as I'm out the garage and in the driveway, the lights go off again. (I think you can see where I'm going with this...
)
Also, I obviously have a Euro type headlight switch, which means that if my lights are completely switched off, I need to turn the switch through the Auto Lights function to get to the parking/side lights function (where I can switch the front and rear foglights on) and then on to the normal headlights function. At night, this means that I'm switching my lights on (auto), off (park), and on again (main), every time I want to use the fog lights.
My question is, how do you guys with HID's get around this on/off issue? Does it really make such a big difference to the life of an HID bulb? I don't want to spend lots of $$$'s on a kit just so that I can spend more $$$'s every month on new bulbs.
