Wow! Incredible Work.
Truly IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!
Thanks! :)

It's been running great the past few days. Air suspension is so much more comfortable and smoother than the steel suspension. Even on Sport mode, I feel bumps less.

I need some help from the ROW people who have a 2011+ Touareg with air suspension: could you please post/PM me your 03-brake module long coding? VCDS doesn't have a label file for the T3/T4 brake module, and I need to code it for air suspension.

Thanks! :)

Please post it here for everyone to see.

Great job.

Here is an extract from VCDS for Module 03. My Treg is MY2012 (7P) ROW with air suspension fitted as a factory option.

Glad you are enjoying the benefits of air suspension. For me, it was a 'must have' for off-road touring, for which it is awesome despite some odd design constraints imposed by the VW engineers. Eg. cannot exceed 70 kph in off-road height. If you try to circumvent speed-controlled auto-lowering by 'locking' the off-road height, vehicle speed is electronically limited to 70kph (ie press the accelerator pedal to the floor, and nothing will happen).

In extra off-road height. the vehicle will auto lower to off-road height when speed exceeds 20 kph - and will not auto-raise once you drop below that speed - need to manually dial out of extra off-road height and then dial in again.

Extra off-road height leaves very little suspension articulation - gives a very bouncy ride, so use it only when absolutely necessary.

Not sure whether it is important or not, but I notice from one of your images that you have Adaptive Cruise Control. My vehicle does not have this, and I do not know if there is any coding linkage between ACC and ABS modules.

Great job.

I retrofitted ACC to my T2, and yes the ABS Coding required modification.

Enjoying the post, and I just joined the forum. I just bought (2 days ago) a 2014 Tdi to use as a tow vehicle for our travel trailer. I'm hoping to do as you did, and swap (just) the rear suspension with air to help support the weight on the hitch. Do you know if the 2003-06 Cayenne rear air springs have the same mounting points as the 2011-16. From pictures, it looks like the damper control valve was relocated but otherwise the mounting looks the same. The 03-06 are quite a bit cheaper. For a first test, I'm planning to use a simple electronic pressure control valve to maintain constant pressure. If that works well I might add a PLC and level sensors to make it more automatic. Also wondering if the shock is basically in "comfort" mode when no power is applied. Cheers.

You need 2011+ parts, they're completely different from the previous 03-10 parts. The damper is on max firm when no current is applied, max soft when 1.8A is applied.

It might have been easier to convert an Australian Touareg to left-hand drive!
I quite doubt it, it would end up costing me over 65,000 CAD to have it landed here at least. Then converting it to LHD would've been a hell of a larger task than retrofitting the air suspension. Plus it needs to be at least 15 years old.

I wasn't serious, although we do see a few US cars imported here then converted to right hand drive.

If the all new Touareg and air sus for NF/FL model are the forbidden fruits for NA, why not to consider Audi Q7? They share same platform, the prices for new Treg are almost at par with Q7 now, I see no advantages in terms of off-road capabilities, and Audi positioned itself as progressive prestigious luxury?

If it was at least 15 years old, you wouldn't need to convert it to LHD. Check my signature :grin2:

Audi stopped bringing over the Diesel Q7's with the 4L body, 4M is petrol only. :frown2:
Question for you, do you guys get rear lockers in your 4L Audi Q7's?

I’m trying to find the perfect Touareg (trim, colour...) and will be tempted to do this!

Do it!

It's been a few weeks now since I've complete the retrofit and it's been great. Touareg goes up and down when commanded, shock damping levels are distinctly different, and the load-sill lowering is a neat feature. I've since re-calibrated it so that it sits about 20mm lower than factory at all levels and it looks great, imo. Especially when parked and in loading level. I'm going to order some wheel spacers to really set the stance then I'll post pictures.

I'll get a retrofit DIY posted in the new year. Also will have the 4Xmotion swap done in a bit, as well as OEM ambient lighting package.

This thread give me hope. I started working on this retrofit a while back, got as far as sourcing most of the parts except the strut assemblies but everything has just been sitting for a while. I bought a complete wiring harness from a fully loaded euro spec car also.

How much did you pay for the struts and where did you source them? ebay.de prices seem to be pretty high. I found some remanufactuered units out of china but I'm not sure of the quality.

I've been carefully looking at 958 cayennes to steal parts from. Hopefully a clean low mileage one pops up
