Hi Kevin, only had ours for about 6 weeks so far but round here, mixed light traffic suburban about 13 to 17 l/100k, sight seeing up and down the Glasshouse Mountains around 12 to 13l. Haven't yet tried real open road but driving down past Brisvegas on Tues towing a big tandem box trailer (750kg empty) and coming back loaded with about another 600kg so I'll let you know what that's like.

G'day
Average for almost 50,000kliks is 11.9 litres/100km
Best is on highway from Wagga to Glenbrook using cruise control mostly, set to 10 over limit - 9.8 litres /100km
Worst is offroad for a week in Victorian high country - something like 23 litres/100km

I live about 30km from work out in the country which means my commute consists of roughly 2/3rds country / freeway driving & 1/3 'city' driving.

My 04 V10 TDI's fuel consumption varies dramatically with how hard I am with my right foot. If I drive like a granny I can get it down to the high 9s, low 10s per 100km. If I drive real hard consumption will get up above 18l/100km. (I avoid looking at the 'live' fuel consumption readouts - it is far too depressing!!!)

My drive in today saw the trip consume 11.1 litres per 100km. The trip readings seem much 'nicer' than the fuel tank readings...

On average I get about 12.2 litres to 13.2 litres per 100km out of a tank. If I drive hard for an entire tank the system will tell me I've averaged in the high 14s per 100km.

I'm towing a horse float this weekend for the first time so will let you know how that affects consumption.

Well the Tuesday trip to Yatala didn't go quite as planned: wrote off my GU Patrol and damaged the trailer late yesterday arvo but hey the world keeps turning. Still went to Yatala today but used a rented (Uhaul) tandem car trailer behind the R50 and for the trip - about 270k round trip, got 16l/100k which was a bit disappointing, was hoping for better. It was mainly highway/motorway with some suburban traffic 60% using cruise control. Traffic a bit patchy and found 1 trailer tire down to 10psi about 1/4 the way back with the load on board which wouldn't have helped economy much. P.S it wasn't very aerodynamic.

IMHO, economy on Touaregs is very largely dependent on aerodynamics. I used probably 20% more fuel with an empty large trailer with a canvas canopy 2m high than with the camper trailer loaded to the eyeballs.
Then when the big trailer had a load of furniture there seemed to be very little more used than when it was empty.

May as well add my two bobs worth.
Recent 13000Km trip in R5 averaged 9.8 with 3 adults and luggage. Did at one stage sit on 130KMH but couldnt believe how quick gauge was going down so slowed to 115KMH.

Last year did 8500Km trip in TDI Jetta DSG with 4 adults and luggage and averaged 5.5 per 100..

Moonan has a point. I used my TReg to tow a horse float today. This morning's trip I got 14 litres per 100km. I had to drive smoothly cos there was a horse in it so wasn't hooning around. The other reason I think I had such good economy is there was no wind about.

I got 16l/100km this afternoon when towing the float empty. The thing bounced around a bit (I hate empty floats) and it was fairly windy.

Hi Trak & others, Just made the trip from Sunshine Coast to Brisbane's northern suburbs (about 100k) last night with 3 on board and at the end of the highway section the trip average was 9.7l/k. After the last 15k or so through the burbs it got to 10.4. At the end of the return trip a few hours later with about 15k of roadworks (20, 40 & 60 kph zones) it was showing 10.8. Most of the time when the speed limit was 100 kph or more it was on cruise control set about 7k over. Overall, pretty good.

Hello everyone, I live on the Sunshine Coast (Qld) and drive a V10. It's interesting to see all the fuel consumption figures you've all posted, and I have to say it's exactly the same as I consistently get. Definitely 9.5 on highway travelling 100-110 k/hr. Recently drove Glen Innes to home (3/4 tankful) and got 9.9 including driving through Brisbane traffic at peak hour. Got to say that's very acceptable fuel economy considering the insane amount of acceleration you always have on hand.

The other thing I can add is that I have checked the fuel economy figure shown on the dash against real figures I've calculated by litres used against distance, and it is consistently spot on. In other vehicles I have always had to make an adjustment.

I'm happy driving this car.

My long term average according to the gauge is 14.4lt/100 klm. Drive like a pussy and I get high 9 s and low 10's. Highway cruise and I can get low 11's at 140 kph . I got the car for the performance, I don't think about fuel so much as I like the drive. I will re chip in a few days and will be interested to see how the economy changes. I use about 100 litres per week, probably a little less but this seems OK to me for the amount of driving I do.

Are you guys running on the Castrol Premium Vortex? I got my car back yesterday and filled it up with this stuff for the first time.

There's only 2 places in Canberra that stock the stuff so it was a bit out of the way to get it. Having said that, it was 8 cents a litre cheaper than diesel elsewhere in town!

Seems to show a big improvement in economy. Its hard to tell whether I've got improved performance with the fuel as I've been driving a 2.0 TDI Golf around this week.

used vortex for a while before switching to BP diesel, which i find best out of all...havent used much of shell though...caltex seem to charge a premium for vortex over the others, however the specs arent that alluring....

I'll agree with Singh there on the BP.
I have some diesels at work and we run the big 4 fuel cards (BP, Shell, Caltex and Mobil). I find we always get better fuel consumption on BP. Three of the vehicles are the same make/model, all do basically the same in driving conditions and with different drivers refuelling at different servos you notice at the end of the month which gets the best result.

I personally use BP, but that is because it is around the corner and their prices are fair.

I'd like to know who makes the diesel, Caltex refine their own, but does BP, for all we know BP could be the Caltex ?

Good point Bails. As far as I know BP have refinaries in Perth & Brisbane , Shell & Mobil in Victoria , Mobil in Adelaide and Caltex in Sydney.
BP Ultimate deisal is available in Perth , Brisbane and recently Adelaide.
