I can't say I've ever seen an LED driving light that wasn't in that spectrum.

I have a warm white LED light bulb in my house that I'm pretty impressed with.
For what it's worth, the bugs don't collect in the light fitting like they do with incandescent and fluro bulbs of any colour.

I can't say I've had any issues with glare with my 2x 126 watt light bars except for once in very heavy fog.
I think it's more to do with the indiscriminate flood of light you get from these things.

Interesting thing, I had an (illegal) HID H7 low beam in my Mondeo that threw a very tidy pattern and was excellent in fog. It was 6000k.

I have these that I'll be installing for reverse lights.

There's no way they're 10 watt or 2x5 watt but they'll be ok for reversing.

I'm going to put them on a stand alone switch and bypass the reverse system.

I'll be mounting them on brackets that screw in where the number plate screws on.

I have dunked mine under water and mud several times now and the IP rating has held up.
Its done well over thousands of corrugations my touareg happily rides over every year.
Great whites are tested for all this and gives a fair amount of light.

If you do go offroad and will be doing water crossings then worth getting water/dust proof ones.
We all have different requirements and there are all sorts of choices to keep us amused :)

Btw dont think i will need a lightbar on the Rline. The lights are very good.
Having a heat sensing camera, though expensive, would be great!

Hi Mmm Boost
I have to answer you this what as i can't pm you. Sadly i looks like i lost or misplaced the photos form the light installation. When you take the bumper completely of you find a steel bar where i drilled four holes into to mount a the bar i made. the bar is like a square "C" with two tongues that stick trough the grill. pretty strait forwards the hardest part i would say is to get the tongues the right hight. Spray the bar black and the tongues silver(in my case) and you hardly will notice it. hope it helps and let my know if i can help again

Yogie, not sure why you can't PM me as my inbox has tons of space left in it. Strange....

Anyway, I've been working on light brackets all week and have managed to sort something out for the lower grill. The upper grill I've been leaving for last since as you say "getting the height just right" is going to be fun.....

The setup I have so far is a 3/16" x 2" strip that I contoured to match the existing hood latch support. It's bolted at the bottom where the original piece bolts and then it connects up by the latch with two more bolts through the existing support plate.

Then there is a tubing structure which bolts to the center support as well as has tabs that now connect to holes drilled through the crash bar. It's not quite finished yet....still have to add a mounting tab for the top lights and then add some corner gussets and cap the tubes so water can't get in.

The setup so far... Still have 2 more lights that will be removable for backcountry adventures.

All back together.

Finally finished up the lighting project this weekend and snapped a few photos. The lights behind the grill still need some fine tuning for aim, but all in all I'm pretty happy with the how things turned out. I also fabbed up a little pod for the switches under the existing light switches.... I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in my dash. Haha.

The main bracket all welded up and added some gussets. It's now painted satin black and is totally invisible behind the grills.

The brackets I made up for the upper light mounts. Turned the main pieces on my lathe and welded them to some mounting tabs that you can access through the grill to remove them when not offroading

The switch pod I made out of some thin gauge steel and painted with Plasti-dip to match the interior

And finally...... the money shots

Futher on the legality of led light bars in Australia ... Unsealed 4x4 Magazine has just produced an article saying that ADR13 allows the fitting of up to 4 additional lights (and a light bar with many lights is classed as one light so long as they operate simultaneously from a single enclosed assembly), but that they must not obstruct the driver's view - so having them mounted above the top of a bull bar is not legal if it is in the driver's view. There is not anything in the ADR that prohibits them being mounted on the roof, but enquiries by Unsealed 4x4 found that they were OK on the roof in QLD, ACT, VIC, TAS, NT and SA, but NOT OK in WA or NSW.

The rules governing work lights mounted on roof racks also differ State to State! For the full article, subscribe to the free online mag.

Is it any wonder why we can't elect a Prime Minister outright, without using preference votes!

So, if there are any WA or NSW Police on here, will a vehicle from an OK State driving in to a NOT OK State be pinged for a roof mounted led light bar? And will it make a difference if the bar has a cover over it?

Regards, Mike

How did you guys go about running the power wire up to your lights or light bar? I'm getting ready to mount a light bar on the cargo rack on the roof of my Treg and I'm trying to figure out how to run the power wire to it.....without making it stick out like a sore thumb. How are you guys running the power wires up to your lights on the roof?

I havent tried wiring through the roof, many have though, under the roof rail. Makes me nervous, dont want any leaks or dust!

You could route the cable up through the hood along the edge of the windshield. I would think it would blend into pretty well there. From there you'd have a small distance to get from the top of the windshield to the track for the rails.

^looks good!

Just a heads up guys. Got a fixit ticket by Philadelphia PD for "off road lights being uncovered > 35" from the road surface". Basically I was pulled over and told you need an opaque cover over any lights that are above 32" above the road. Placed electrical tape over the lights. Good to go now. It's that easy.

Cop: Off-road lights are kind of my thing.
Me: shouldn't rape and cocaine be a cops "thing?"
Cop: here's your ticket.

Really like this lighting set up top, do you have a link and or more photos of them?

My version here.

Steeler bull bar and two 80W led lamps, 8000 lumens each. The increased light power is quite remarkable...

nice! how about a night shot showing the light output with and without headlights on if possible

At the moment, I don't have a switch for the lamps, so they are always on with the high beams. It's a real drag to find the way for the wiring to the cabin for the switch. I'm thinking of putting a wireless switch.

I'll get back on you with the pics if I manage to install the switch.
