I'll be out in Moab, Utah for a weekend of offroad on the slick rock. Anyone in the area is welcome to join the three of us!

We are here. It is currently raining very hard, could make for some difficult travel tomorrow if it continues. We'll see, but I'll post pics after tomorrows trail ride.

Some pics of today. Unfortunately, pics don't do Moab justice, especially with the steepness of some of these obstacles.

We are supposed to get that rain up here today. I wish I could have made it down there to run with you guys, but with rooms being booked I just could not do it. Hell, I live in the state, I should go down there sometime to run trails!! :) Hey Chris, ask Hap for me why I am not seeing the new Treg in any of those pictures!! ;) I especially liked the pic of the guy in the Toyota truck. Wtf was he thinking when he went out there?

Great pics AirCooled:cool: I'd love to try some crawling in my Treg, just not brave enough yet. Then again, I've only had it 2 days;) I'll keep an eye on your offroading threads, I'm feeling the urge and we have some nice 'fire roads' in SoCal...

Thanks for sharing the pics. The pictures may not do it justice, but I've been there before and it is one of the most beautiful places in the country IMO. But I know what you're saying. I've done trails that have scared the bejeezus out of me but from 3rd person pictures they don't look that bad. It's hard for pictures to capture the true essense of a trail -- it looks different from a 3rd person persepctive vs a 1st person perspective. I can appreciate those pics though. :clapclap:

PS -- Aircooled -- where's the best place to get a tire rack like you have on top? I need to get one of those. Thanks.
I don't remember what brand Aircooled's is but you can get racks with tire mounts from Yakima or Thule.

New pics posted at the same link I posted above.

To quickly bring everyone up to speed, yesterday's run was pretty much exclusively Fins N Things. Lots of STEEP uphill climbs and I even avoided some of the bypasses and headed for the wall. Made the bring pull up Kenny's Climb at the top of Frenchie's Fin. This climb up is at about a 45 degree climb straight up.The Touareg did well (as expected) and we even gain the respect of a few Jeepers as we passed through obstacles with ease that they slid around and spun tires in/on.

Day 2: Porcupine Rim - a tough trail for the Touareg due to the many rock ledges, some in excess of 14 or more. Heavy rains from the night before looks like it move some of the sand away from the larger ledges and left wet sand all around the obstacles. Some trail building was needed for the bigger ledges. The skid plate was used more than once. Drove out to the overlook, didn't see another soul on the trail for hours. Ended this trip with a brief revisit to the rockier part of Fins, since the two trails pretty much flow together at one point. The rains were starting to move in, so we decided to call it and head home for a cold beer. We stopped at Potato Salad Hill to watch to big jeeps climb up an impossibly steep and slippery rock face. Watch a jeep nearly roll over in the process as he got his rear tires hopping while trying to climb a ledge and got sideways on the hill in less than a second. His girlfriend had to strap him up on over to get him safe and to the top.

Tomorrow, we will attack Hells Revenge.

Sounds like I may have not had such a good time considering where you guys went. Maybe a good thing I did not make it down. Unless you honestly think a steel could have made it through with oversized tires. I guess I could not have done any worse then the guy in the Toyota the first day. :)

Porcupine is the trail that VegasMatt and Arkach had problems on last year. I had several obstacles where even with the suspension lifted to Xtra I was still hitting the skid plate and rocker panels on the ledges. It would have been tough going for you.

Had a successful completion of Hell's Revenge today with all three vehicles intact. That is a very intense trails with some very steep up and down sections. There were also some slippery sand stone ledges to contend with. Too tired to post new pics tonight and I'll be on the road back home tomorrow so look for something tomorrow night.

Yeah! You guys got over Hell's Revenge! Hopefully with Hap and Rick, it was faster than our seven hour tour last time. How about that first obstacle :)

Yes, Porcupine does require clearance. Even with the 32's on steel, it was getting close on the early parts of the trail.

Did you also do Baby Lions Back?
