I told my dealer I was going to get 22" wheels for my car but they told me the TPM will light up and the annoying beeping will come on when I start my car. I hear some people used their stock valve stems to prevent this from happening. I also heard of some people disabling the TPM. My question is, is this true and more importantly, how? I want to buy next week and would like to resolve this potential problem. Thank you. I would prefer to keep my stocks as is and untouched and just disable the TPM.

One solution is to purchase the correct tire pressure sensors from Tire Rack and install them in your new wheels. They are not that expensive from Tire Rack. I did that for the 20" wheels I have on my car and they work just like the original sensors. Two things to keep in mind:
1) if you have more than 1 set of tire pressure monitors in your car (ie carrying the spare wheels back from the dealer) turn off the TPM in the MFI.
2) If you are swapping wheels, trun off the TPM in the MFI and then tell it to learn the new pressures when you put the other wheels on the car.

Your other option is to figure out how to shut the TPM system off completely. There has to be a way. This is not a standard feature on the European versions. It could be that you need a VAGCOM to do it or maybe just pulling the plug on the unit under the dash will do it.

I would imagine that removing the fuse for the TPM would do that job. This is what I plan on doing with the extra set of offroad wheels. I'll have to look into the VAG-COM side of it next time I have it hooked up.
Can't remember, is TPM part of the central convenience controller?

It is possible to turn it off as my dealer did it on my dysfunctional '04...they wouldn't share what or how they did it though.
