Hi guys,

So was wondering if any one can point out the main differences between the normal Touareg 5.0l V10 and the Touareg R50?

1. They both 5.0l V10's.
2. The R50 has a killer body kit.
3. R50 has probably a little more hp/kw and Torque being the more expensive/classier one?

Just interested in learning more about these beasts, and thought this would be the best place to learn more.

Thanks.

Body kit, wheels, slightly bigger brakes, 40 horsepower, 70 ft-lbs torque, interior is completely different: seats, materials of dash etc, I think biscay blue was the name of the R50 blue and I don't think it was available on non-R50's.

I'm sure there is other stuff...

Is an R50 just a tuned V10 Touareg ? ie a chipped V10 ?
From an engine perspective i would say yes, mine is remapped to deliver same output.
Beyond that there are several internal and external cosmetic changes

Basically a tweeked fully optioned V10 with limited variables and some unique bits. Check the specs on any car road test site or Vw site. Only options were choice of 3 colours (Blue, Black or White) Electric tailgate, reversing camera, sunroof and sound system upgrade. Wheels and tyres bigger, brake discs bigger front and rear as well different callipers painted blue (whoa, so much faster!), body kit as mentioned, more power and substantially more torque (850 nm v 750nm), lower ride heights, different suspension tune, 4 zone climate control, completely different seat shape and material, no wood trim (thank heavens), pedal covers, bi xenon headlights, roof rails and maybe some other things as I'm not too sure what the standard V10 had in different regions and year models. Only 940 ever built. John

OK Sing.

Tell me the truth.
Did you notice a difference when you had your ecu remapped?

Twist my arm. I need a little peer pressure. I been thinking about doing it to my 2004 V10 TDI

Sorry just saw this, wondering how best to answer. Generally speaking i will say yes. I got better slightly power and economy. The fuel consumption at idle too decreased. On and offroad the economy is better than other v10s i have compared across thousands of kms- ClubTouareg adventures across the outback :)
I went for the 'low' version of the remap. You have two more choices beyond that if you want to be very 'spirited' with your v10.
So it depends, if you spare $1000 lying around then go for it, else save it to help fix either if the known v10 issues you might face at some point of time. All the best
