Posting for a fellow Treg owner looking for an alloy front plate to put on his '08 V6Tdi.

If you do have one fitted and you're thinking of moving onto a newer Treg model or another vehicle, don't sell it with it fitted as my friend is very keen to get his hands on a front plate.
Young bloke starting out, he already has the centre and (rare) rear plate ex AGfabs (Alex Gee) fitted but still looking to complete the underbody protection with a front one from Alex or one of the later version from Dragline .

Thanks

Hi mate. I am in Sydney and contacted a local fabricator from Newcastle way. He makes fibreglass / kevlar items.
To make a kevlar version of the OEM plastics would be around $1,000-1,500.. But I think if we could get a few made we could get the price under $1,000. This would be for both the front and rear sections. So it should cover all the way from the backside of the front bumper to the back of the transmission.

PM me if you think he would be interested. I may just shell out the cash and have 4 or 5 made and then try to sell the others.

Hi Luke, interesting idea.

I take it you already familiarised yourself with the alloy plates that are already in the field?
Are you proposing just to take the existing plastic covers and have them made out of kevlar or have you modifications in mind?
I have an alloy plate mounted and one of the most important features is where/how the plate is mounted onto the body to obtain the rigidity required to do the job. Use of kevlar is interesting as certainly plate weigh is an issue even when using 6mm alloy as it can be a bit tricky when removing and mounting on your own without a hoist.

Suggest if you have some drawings or plans you can share put it on the forum as would help to generate interest seeing you are looking for numbers to reduce the unit cost.

Hi. Have just had custom Stainless steel plates fitted to my 2018 Touareg. Covers Engine and transmission and replaces the original plastic ones. Uses the same mounting points. Total weight 12 kg. Live in Brisbane and local company Custom off Road has the design template and can get made quickly. Cost was $500

Gday @BGR05

That's pretty interesting.

Would you have any photo's/drawings of your bashplate for us to have a look at ?

Do you know if the design is a straight replica of the OEM plastic job or has it been extended to cover more area ?

Cheers

Steve
ps. What part of Brisbane are you in ... I wouldn't mind arranging a nosey at your bashpate if possible ?

Hi Steve.
It was originally designed to fit the Cayenne. Was virtually identical except for the transmission mount location.
It goes further back than the plastic number.
The local guys made the modifications needed. I am at Ormeau and your welcome to have a look

Certainly looks the goods and the price is great as far as these things go.
Do you know if both plates need to come off to get access to the sump plug for oil changing?
