When I bought my Touareg last week, I declined paying $199 for the window etching seeing how it was already on the egg. However, my insurance company wants to see the certificate before they will give me a discount. Does anyone have advice for me?

I recently assisted my mother-in-law with the purchase of a Subaru. Window etching was explained to me that the dealer (or factory) has to do it and they get a special insurance policy. For $199 they can transfer the insurance policy to you and if the car is stolen, you get $2000. I think the chances of getting your car stolen are much lower than 1 in 10.

Take a picture of the etched VIN and submit that. As long as they can clearly see the numbers in the window, they should be willing to give you the discount if that is their policy.

Thanks Spockcat.

I'll see if my insurance co will work with me. When I bought my Audi, they did not change me the fee but did give me the paperwork. Perhaps another difference between a dealer who sells luxury cars and one who that purports to sell them.

hmm.. seems like one of those false-sense-of-security deterrents.
more like one of those 'false' necessities that dealer trys to sell you. :confused2: IMHO, unless you live in Manhattan or the Bronx you don't need it. Frankly, if our Treg gets stolen, or any vehicle gets stolen, I don't want it back. Just cut me a check-ola. Just my .02--car is usually thrashed if you get it back and has been driven like a rent-a-racer.
