I just bought a 2009 TReg and it doesn't have a fader control - just balance left and right. In the owners manual, it says there will be no fader if there are no rear speakers, but this is a DynAudio system and it does have rear speakers. Anyone know the scoop here? I tried searching but couldn't find the answer. TIA!

RNS 510 does have a fader on it. You see a pic of the interior of the car on the screen in settings, you just move the crosshair to set the fade.

Thanks Yeti - I'll give that a try. That said, I don't remember seeing a pic of the interior on any screens. Why wouldn't the control just be with the balance control?

I just went out and looked and I can't find anything that says settings nor can I find a fader control when I press the Sound button. I do have a left/right balance control but no fader. I also confirmed that I do have sound coming from the rear speakers.

Thanks again, Yeti - I really appreciate you taking the time to take pics! Mine looks like that too except in your left pic, mine says just "Balance" and not "Balance-Fader". And when I press it, I get just a left-right setting without the pic on the screen that you show on the right. Maybe it needs to be recoded or something? This is really odd... Thanks again for your efforts!

TJay - I just looked at your profile. It says you have a 2007 V8. The RNS 510 did not come with 2007 (or 2008 for that matter). They were first included on the 2009's. So that means that your Nav / Radio unit was added in after the fact either by you or the previous owner.

I've not played around with the VCDS settings of that unit too much, but it could have been coded incorrectly when it was put in, rendering the fader non-functional. It could also be a function of the CAN-BUS adapter that was used to integrate that unit into your vehicle. The RNS 510 is a CAN 2.0 unit, while the 2007 Touareg is CAN 1.6 - meaning an adapter is needed to allow the unit to "talk" to the rest of the system.

Hope that helps - I'd start with the coding.

Does it say Dynaudio on the speakers or just the radio? I have mine coded to say DynAudio on boot, but it is not a DynAudio system. I do not have the stock firmware anymore either, but pretty sure the original one still had a fade setting on it.

He does say in his first post he just bought an 09 with DynAudio.

:-lll D'Oh! I totally read past that part. Good call. I just looked on the left under his name.... LOL.... Sorry TJay!

Having no fade control makes no sense. It shouldn't be firmware related at all. Plus as you say you have DynAudio, so it should in fact be there since you obviously have rear speakers. Very weird!

Yes, very weird indeed. Only a German car would have this type of issue. Not sure if you guys followed the classified thread, but this is that rare 2009 V8 that was for sale a couple weeks ago - the one with ACC, locking rear diff, blind spot detection, air suspension, etc. It's very cool. I bought it from a gentleman in Wisconsin and had it shipped to MA - very nice guy an a pleasure to work with. There are a couple of little quirks like this that I'll have to figure out, but overall the vehicle is all that it was cracked up to be, and more. I just love it! It came with a transferable top-tier VW warranty so perhaps I'll just have to wait for the paper work on that and bring it to the dealer for this one. Oh the fun of buying used vehicles!

It was a former VW Corp Executive car. They were brought over here loaded with features you couldn't find anywhere else. That being said I'll take mine with the fade control..;)

OK so it's a "special " touareg.. I would enable the "Green" menu and see if it provides any remedy. Of course that requires a Vag-com. Unless it is already enabled. But I
Don't remember how to check and see?
What exactly is the "Green" menu? Never heard of such a thing. I have a friend who's going to hook up his Vag-com next weekend. What should I ask him to be looking for in regard to this? I'm also going to ask him if he can move the DRL's to the menu so I can switch them on and off as needed. Anything else Vag-com related that I should ask him to look at while he has it?

Yes indeed. And what prompted me to look into this in the first place is that the sound seems to be focused too much toward the front...

There is no "Green" menu on the RNS 510. That was an RNS 850 thing. There is a service menu you can enable via VCDS. You can find the directions for that in the VCDS mods for T1 and T2 Tregs. It won't get you any other settings persae, but allows you to see satellite signal strength as well as other things. Just have him hook up and see if there is any settings that can be changed under the radio. Still makes no sense why you have no fade control.

Although I haven't tried it, it may be the "sound system" value in the RNS 510 coding being set to an incorrect value. Not sure what that would do, but I would think it was worth checking.
