Before running a new wire, have you verified that there is no continuity from the harness sensor connector pin to the harness ECU connector pin 30?

And I mean doing exactly the above, not measuring continuity from sensor connector to ground etc., but from harness pin to harness pin.

Yes. I don't get continuity between pin 1 at the plug and the end of that grey/red wire, right before it goes into the ECU plug. :(

I just poked a small hole in the sheathing of the wire right before the ECU plug to test this. Using the same approach on other circuits, I am able to successfully measure continuity where it exists, but on this circuit I don't get a reading. Perhaps there is a less crude way to test? Perhaps I'm testing incorrectly?

If I'm interpreting correctly, you mean testing at the ECU plug instead of at the wire leading up to it? Is it ok to stick a paperclip Into the number 30 pin slot on the connector? My meter probes are too wide to fit into the pin slot, hence me testing the wire leading up to it instead.

Back probing is not done with the meter probes....
You need to use the correct tools and knowledge to do what you want to do.
Get the proper tools, look up how to do things you don't know how to do, and do it correctly.
Piercing wires and insulation is not the way.
Inserting the correct probe between the wire and weather seal is the proper way.
Don't be a butcher!

Got it. Will try and find a suitable probe. When you say between the wire and weather seal, I'm a little confused. I would assume to insert the above pictured probe into slot 30 of the ECU plug. Are you saying to instead insert the probe at the back side of the ECU plug where the wires come in?

Wonderful, will try back probing 30 to pin 1 on the plug.

I just want to make sure, and this is possibly why my previous efforts have been futile, I should test while the ECU plug is plugged into the ECU (and ignition on), right? Or does this not matter since we're only testing for continuity between two points, not power? Thus far I have been testing for continuity with the ECU plug unplugged.

I also have the sensor plug unplugged throughout testing. Have never tried back probing it while it's plugged in. Again, assumed I didn't need to in order to test continuity of the wire between both plugs.

I don't even know what it is that you are trying to do any more......
I told you to back probe stuff when you said that you were poking holes in wires.....

What is it that you want to do here?

If you're trying to test a wire, then disconnect it at both ends, and put the leads on the pins of each connector.
If you're trying to read a signal or something out of a component, back probe the connector, etc.

Quit stabbing holes into wires.... there's no need for it.

I must have been testing wrong or something. Today I was able to measure continuity between both sensor plugs and pin 30. With the ECU plug plugged in, I was now also able to read continuity between the sensor plug and ground.

Seems my ignorance in the auto electrical field is causing me more problems than I actually have 😅

From my understanding it seems that the only culprit to look at now is a bad connection where I soldered in pin 48? Is there a way to test that connection or circumvent it?

Don't have vcds, but temperatures gauge is functioning normally. Fan is still on full bore.

Pin 48 is for radiator fan relay. It seems to be the source of my issue, I just don't know how to test the connection I made or how to wire around it.

This is basically pointless without VAGCOM
