Ive V10 with 255/55R18 Bridgestone Turanza fitted from new, 5,600 mls. The left front tyre had abnormal wear on outside shoulder at 3,000 mls. I immediately got it tracked (4 wheel lazer tracking). It was far out. But nOW at 5,600 mls both front tyres are seriously worn on the outside. I'm back from the tracking garage again just now. As they adjusted each wheel a different one went out of track. They got frustrated and asked I not call again. I then suggested it might be because of the air suspension that drops when car is turned off. I started the car and the rear wheel came immediately into line. Turned if off and they went out again. They insisted the engine HAD to be off to avoid vibrations to the lazer gear mounted on each wheel. They were not interested in readjusting the front again. At present the right front is 30deg instead of the admissable .10 (0.6 if perfect)and the left front is -40 degrees. My VW dealer on the other hand has only sold 6 V10's with air suspension. I wonder do they know any better (they're also 278 mls from me.)
Can anyone advise the proper procedure to correctly track my car?
I hope to go to a new tracking garage armed with more information to enable this. But with your help only.

The garage owner said he didnt' want to see this car again and refused to accept money.

I agree with AZ - you need to have your dealership working on this, so there is a record of repairs with Volkswagen. I know it's a pain going to the dealer frequently, but while this thing is under warranty, and dealerships openly admitting they are in a "learning process" as well.... I rather have a dealership screw up the car and they have to fix it, then a repair shop screwing it up, your dealership removes itself from it... and you wind up with the bill! :anger:

While I think you have demonstrated that yes, the air suspension DOES have an effect on alignment, I also have to ask how hard you drive your vehicle? The V10 is quite porky up front and you might be over steering the tires on the turns.

I have rubbing on the INSIDE of my tires, but it is related to a stepper motor problem.

I have to agree with TREGinginCO, bring this to the attention to the dealer and at the very least, find out how they align the vehicle with the air suspension factor!

Wheel alignment

Find a better garage!

Form what you describe those people don't know what they are doing and if they are refusing to service your vehicle they are not worth anybody's time or money and should suffer their demise.

I've had bad alignment experiences in the past, too, even with good garages. The solution has always been to go to another garage and have it realigned. Once a garage starts monkeying with the alignment settings so far out of the factory specs, they will never get it right nor eliminate the abnormal tire wear. And regardless of the latest whiz bang technology used in an alignment machine, machines at different garages will always produce different results due to factors such as machine calibration and the technician's skill.

I have the same problem as you with 255/55 R 18 Bridgestone Turanza in my V10 with only 9375 KM, is exactly the same problem with the left front tyre, at 6000 Km I passed the front tyres to the back and those to the front and right now I need to change the four tyres and the outside left sides are abnormally worned out.

Please let me know if you have solved this problem, I dont want to substitute my tyres and have inmediatelly the same problem with the new ones.

I'm back.
I took my V10 to Advance (specialist nationwide type company) in Cork City.
I gently mentioned I'd already difficulties and esplained.
they said "no problem" the engine must be kept running during allignment.
They'd new lazer unit 2 weeks old. I notices that the screen on their allignment system was listed as "VW Touareg AS". I presume this means AIR SUSPENSION. The previous garage (shop) system only listed "VW Touareg". At January there were only 9 V10's in Ireland.
The technician doing the job did it in 30 minutes in a fast a professional way. He did it in his stride without quibbles.
I presume it's correct........I hope.
I must wait and see, but I do have confidence.

The first garage said that all volvo 740's & 760's wore the left front tyre only abnormally and could never be rectified. It scared me.

Thanks for advise.

I forgot to mention. I usually drive 60 mph & 70mph on motorways. No sharp turns are taken.
I'm not an aggressive driver. I've averaged 21.3mpg imperial 4.546 litres (17.71 US gls) in 5,670mls
thanks again.
