Hi Folks
will be replacing our current Treg with a new one shortly through a lease. getting quotes at the moment.

Have found the thread on interior colour very useful and think that has possibly swayed us to the corn silk interior.

We will be getting a 4X motion and on the list are the area view (listed at $1,144 and the panoramic sunroof ($3,120). Colour still undecided at this stage, except definitely not the brown. These are not negotiable from the other half.

However I am looking for comments from those who have the other option packages fitted as to the usefulness and whether they are worth the cost.
These are

  • Driver assistance package (Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist wCity EB, Side and Lane Assist, Proactive Occupant Protection, Multi Function Heated Leather Steering Wheel) - $5,616
  • Dynaudio Audio System - $3,016
  • Sports Interior package (Aluminium pedals, Black Headlining, Multifunction Heated Leather Steering Wheel w/Gear shift paddles, Brushed Aliminium inserts, Door Sill Scuff Plates, 65% Rear Privacy Glass) - $1,040 but this is only with Black Interior so cuts out corn silk
  • Comfort Package (Again not available with Corn Silk interior - 4 Zone Climate Control, Memory Front Seats w?Electric Steering Wheel adjustment, Active Climate Control Front Seats, Heated Leather Steering Wheel) - $4,680
Given our liking for the Corn Silk that seems to be cutting the last two out, but no decision has been made on that as yet. Probably the Driver Assistance package is the most under consideration for us so would really welcome comments on that.

I do find it interesting that the heated steering wheel is offered several times (in Australia of all places) but the climate control front seats are only part of an expensive package. Here in Oz I think they should be a stand alone option.

On another note, one further question, I have a spare set of 17" wheels for the current Touareg. I believe they have the same offset as the current model and so could be used. Is this correct? Damm VW for not offering the 4XMotion with 17" wheels as a no cost option. They have them on the 150 so why not??? Instead I would have to buy an extra set of 17" as well as the standard 18" and for that I was told I would be looking at over $500 for each corner:evil:

Thanks for your time and comments

I chose Pure White and am very happy with it. White is now seems considered by many as the new 'Black' , If you get that. Glad we got the sunroof too.

Next time I would probably consider the comfort package for the perforated seats and the driver assist package.
If your budget is not an issue then given the wait for a 4Xmotion in the colour you want, I would go for most of the options. Cant say if the Dynaudio is worth it. Other threads say its not.

Yes, it is a pity you can't have the Sports Interior package with your preferred interior colour (Cornsilk) - why don't VW offer a cut-down version of this package so that you can have all but the black roofliner.

The paddle shift is terrific if you like 'driving' - for example I use it all the time on roundabouts (and we have lots of them in Canberra), and on windy roads I prefer to use manual gear selection mode (M) with paddle shift up/down shifting - the gear stick is a bit too much of a reach for manual shifting.

The privacy glass is the other most valuable feature in this package - as you already have privacy glass, you'll know the difference this makes.

The other trappings in this package are unimportant, although I do find the heated steering wheel a bonus on cold Canberra winter mornings.

As for 17" wheels, they do fit ... although there is a parallel thread that indicates a problem if wheel is balanced using 'high profile' lead weights. I run MY10 17" Makalu wheels on my MY12 and have no issue with wheel balance weights.

Stop complaining! You guys get all the goodies. We have to step up to a Cayenne to get those options. Decisions, decisions.

Would love to have a black headliner, lane change assist, etc.

Hi
Have MY13 Touareg 4xmotion, Canyon Grey, Panoramic Sun Roof, Driver Assist, Auto , Cornsilk Leather.
IT ALL WORKS WELL TOGETHER,
would not change a thing. Best value is Driver Assist
Reds
Soco59

I have driver assist and could not live without it.
Regret daily taking a stock vehicle with black interior and not going the corn silk.
Ext colour is matter of opinion but mine with corn silk would have been my pick.

i'd be suggesting... 4Xmotion, area view, driver assist(especially for the EB safety), sports(love the paddles too much) & comfort package...if you can get all three that is.....

wish they add keyless to comfort package soon.!!

Singh, get an R-line and you got it all bar the low range

I would evaddirb but love my offroad adventures hence low range is must have....wish vw kept a replacement for the v10... Low range air suspension underbody protection all bells n whistles and full sized spare...

And a bit more room.

The absence of some factory options and after market stuff made me decide in a disco 4 as a replacement for the V10.

It is yet to prove itself though, will see how it behaves with the cape run.

I would have considered another Touareg if it had everything my V10 had plus all the quality trim in a V6.

That's life, move on, cape here we come....

Regards

Gerald

Agreed on the seat color... bought a new 2012 passat TDI with Black Anthracite interior and white exterior.... and indeed, I too regret it. Did not repeat that mistake when buying my Touareg TDI sport 6 months later. White with cornsilk biege, much much cooler.

Thanks for all tour thoughts so far. Very interesting the comments from users and it is helping us quite a bit.

Evaddirb, I certainly take your point about the black interior and we wont be tempted to just take what is on offer. Basically we have been told to get a 4XMotion we will have to order and wait so we will get the colour we want. From the comments we are tending to the cornsilk, the other half would prefer a lighter cooler colour anyway.

Unky, thanks for the info re the 17" wheels, the spare set I have are Makalu so that is good news indeed. Saw the other thread and will bear that in mind.

Soco, your choice is almost what we are thinking of, including the colour, but would add area view. Had this on the car we had overnight for a test and loved that so it was the first inclusion.
For all that suggested the Driver Assist, thanks, it has convinced us to add to the order!

Singh, could only consider a 4XMotion as I would miss the ability too much, though the 4Motion aren't bad, just not for what we will be doing.

Now we have some deciding to do whether to go for the corn silk or get the Sports and Comfort packages. The 4 zone air is not really a necessity for us as it is mostly two up and certainly when travelling outside the metro area. The seats would be good, but doubt it is enough to cut the cornsilk out. Would miss the privacy glass, but that may be the compromise we make.

Think we will probably get the off road styling package (no cost) consisting of black trim on side windows, grey and silver lower body side and bumper trim, and dual chrome exhaust tail on both side. She likes the look of the windows that way and the lower body treatment may hide any scuff marks more than the body colour.

We let you know what we finally decide, but we seem to be heading to add the driver assist to what we started with, with corn silk being the favourite to win over the Sports and Comfort packages. Thanks for all the suggestions so far

Giday pjod, I can confirm that the 17" Makalu's definitely do fit the MY13. The balancing weights just need to be placed carefully. I have fitted Pirelli Scorpions 255/65 R 17 and am very happy. Very slight increase in road noise from the tires. Can't notice it at all though with the radio on. If you do fit these wheels, a wheel alignment will also be in order.

I have a 2013 180TDI with all options except the 4xMotion, I do not have a need for it, never go off road where it would be needed.

It has a Black Sports Interior and Metallic Black Paint.

I have no problem with the interior being too hot, even with the sun roof. I do have the second AC in the rear (Comfort Pack), and I set the rear to 18c and the front to 23c. Even in over 40c days no problem, we had several in Sydney during Summer, and the car was very comfortable.

I was worried a little with the black interior due to heat, but no problem, and far better than a Corn Silk interior, although it looks fantastic, but the carpet and seats will show the dirt so much. Ask any BMW owner who has the same corn Silk interior....

Have just driven the Touareg Sydney to the Gold Coast, 9 hours with a approx 30 min break at Coffs Harbour, 7.2 l/100km, almost 39mpg. Drove on auto cruise the whole way, touched the breaks maybe 4 times. The trip was actually more comfortable than in my Lexus LS430, which is saying something.

If you can afford all of the options they are well worth it, so what ever you get will make a difference to the vehicle. I paid $92,000 without a trade.

I went out to buy a Jeep Cherokee Overland, went to the dealer ready to sign on the dotted line, but after just sitting in it, I was so disappointed I just walked away. I drove pass a VW Dealers and just walked in, and saw the Touareg. Over the next month I looked at the Porshe, Q7, Q5, Lexus LX470, RX450, and price wise, comfortable etc, nothing came close.
