I have recently ordered my 2007 Touareg. It is going to have the higher HP V6 (thank god!). I forgot to ask about what octane fuel is recommended. Does anyone know? Is it 89 or 91? I am guessing that it is 91. My Touareg should be arriving at the end of Nov. I can't wait, it is my first new car in 10 years, My Ford Bronco is showing its age! :anger:

It will most likely be 91. You will be able to confirm this when you get your 'reg, by looking at the sticker on the inside of the gas door (or in the manual). ;)

Congrats on the new 07 !! Wow 2.87 that is great compared to the 3.09 I paid yesterday - 3:15 the week before.

When you get your new Treg lets see some pics!!

It finally broke the $3.00 mark here in the OC. $2.99 at Costco (and select ARCOs).

$2.86 huh? That's MUCH better than the $3.59 we were paying in Ouray a little while back, isn't it? ;)

Yeah, well you see... we Californians have "designer" gas. That's why we pay more than most anywhere in the country.

Yeah, that's the ticket! ;)

I have used a couple of tanks of premium since I bought the car new. I regularly use regular gas. I can not tell any difference in the way the car runs using either grade. It does'nt ping, knock or anything else. Why pay the extra for premium ? There are very few V-6's that need premium gas.
I also did not get any better mileage using the premium grade.

I thought I would chime in about our new 2007 V6. I have put premium in all our cars (99.5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro; 2001 Golf GTI 1.8T) including the Touareg. I paid $2.35/gal for Premium today at the Mr. Car Wash on Kirby and West Alabama for those Touareg owners in Houston who are interested. If I do the math correctly, there was a time that Premium was selling for $3.35/gal and that would be $26.50 more per tank! There must be some Fall Elections around the corner :-s

What are other 2007 V6 owners obtaining for their City gas mileage? I realize I have really not broken the Touareg in yet and I have not performed any long drives (i.e. to San Antonio, Austin or Dallas), but I am getting a miserable 11.6 to 12 mpg around town. Granted there is a lot of idling in Houston traffic and the A/C is on most of the time, but will the mpg improve as the car becomes a little bit looser? (I do not drive like it is a Top Fuel Funny Car or anything. Smooth starts and stops and I have not topped 60 mph yet).

I've always wondered about the East vs. West octane issue. I have a feeling it has to do with altitude, but don't really know. All I know is that in Ohio, Sunoco had Ultra 94 when I left in 2000. As I drove west, the octane dropped. Hell, in (at least) parts of Utah, their pumps have 85 (bad idea!), 88, and 91 octane. In Vegas, some 76 stations used to have 100 octane (great for dirtbikes, but $4.25/gal!) in addition to the 87-89-91 at the gas pumps. They dropped the 100-proof about a year ago.

Any ideas?
Matt
