Hey everyone...

I recently sourced a VW DVD Navi unit off ebay, and just got it installed today. I thought i'd upload some pics as how it works.

So far everything works, i'm just waiting on an Australian Navi DVD. It is basically 'plug and play'. All the plugs already in your non-navi Touareg will work. Even the ipod Adapter works still.

I was surprised that the compass etc works well:

If you don't have a colour intrument panel like mine, then the word "Navigation" is added to the menu:

Then if you click on it it comes up with this. You can also scroll through CD tracks when in this position:

Finally just a quick question, where is says "SECOND TUNER" What is the difference between the "SOUND" option and "TMC"? I can't seem to hear any difference

So there you have it, seems you CAN install Navigation easily into a non-navi Touareg. i'm really happy with the unit looks great amongst the already classy Touareg interior!!

This is an option for Europe, I guess.

I don't know, whether you guys can use TMC in the US. As for Germany, you can use the second tuner either to search permanently for a better frequency for the radio station you are listening to and, thus, enhancing the quality of the radio sounds (by automatically changing to the best frequency) or you can use it for TMC (TrafficMessageChannel). Enabling TMC will set the second tuner to any receiveable TMC-Station. So it picks up all Traffic messages (accidents, traffic jams, etc.) and takes these information into calculation for the best navigation route.
However, precondition of course is that a TMC-System is installed in the radio network and I am not to sure about that in the US.

Regarding your mod: I did the same. I installed a DVD-navigation unit in my 04 Touareg and it was plug and play, basically. It only required one change by VAG-Com and that's it. I also change my head-display into the bigger multi-color one. Wasn't a problem either.

Best

Damian, which sound system do you have? Is the ipod connected via the CD Changer port?

Olaf, would you be kind enough to tell us more about what you changed with the vagcom?

Are you SURE that's the DVD Navi? It looks like the CD Nav to me. The clues are the presence of the 'AUX' and the lack of the 'VOICE' button found on the DVD version. Is it a European DVD Nav? If so then that might explain the discrepancy.

*EDIT*

I took a closer look and it appears that the 'ESC' button is not the same as on the US CD Nav so I guess it is a Euro DVD unit. Also, I see you're from Australia which explains the differences.

Sound system? The DVD Navigation unit, I believe it is the latest version.
I think the ipod connection is via the cdchanger. It is the VW iPod connector.
Can you PM a vag-com scan? I'm trying to install a navi on a my friend's car, but we've got some problems (there's no sound from the ipod connected to the cd changer port :confused2: )

is there some way of getting around this?!
It seems to me there's no way :(

Hello Olaf,
Reference this:

Where did you score the colour MFI from? And what did you need to do to fit it? Was it much of a task?

I am looking replacing the stock radio with a Sat Nav system and if the MFI can also be done without too much work would not mine going down that path.

Plug and play?

Hmmm... Plug and play. Seems that that's supposed to mean "easy", but to the technically impaired, maybe not. I have a 2006 model, and the one owner before me put a CD-NAV in it. I was thinking of picking up the DVD Nav unit, but have to research it first. If it's easy enough to get it into a non-NAVI Touareg, I'd hope it would be even easier to put it in a Touareg that has the CD-NAV. I'll do some reading, but you may have inspired me.

I contacted my local Touareg dealership about making the change, and they told me it would be big $$$... Scared me away, but maybe I shouldn't be...

How did you add your antenna? I would like to do the same with my SS1 2004 but worry about the antenna installation. I would like to be able to use an OEM antenna. Is there an antenna wire in place already or would it have to be routed? Where can you get the OEM antenna?

Thanks,
Stu

Grafico, dude, the ignition is on the wrong side. One of your mods? :giggle:

OK, I have to ask: does coding a left hand drive euro radio switch the volume control know from the left to the right or do you have to reach across the radio to control the volume from the head unit?

There is a DVD Navigation unit on eBay now with a part number of 7L6-035-191-SX. Does anyone know if this is a European unit? It has an Aux button which everyone says means it's the euro version, but the seller claims it's a US model. Are there any DVD US units that feature the Aux button?

Thanks,
Stu

No AUX buttons on any US DVD unit. As I'm sure you know (but it is worth repeating), the Euro DVD unit will not work in the US.
