Hi Vag Com experts,

I am have installed version 21.3 on my windows 10 laptop. I can not the do inital test when hooked up to the vehicle with ignition on. I get the "USB interface not found" .

The unit shows a green light when plugged into the port.

I am barely literate in installing software - any help for this boomer who can barely type?

thanks

I'm pretty sure once the windows program updates you need to hook up the VCDS cable to the laptop and update the firmware for the cable also.
At least this is what I remember from when I last updated the program version.

Edit : I just updated to the newest software version and can confirm that if you have a genuine VCDS cable, once you hit options/test it will open a dialog box telling you that you need to update the firmware for the cable as well. Make sure the cable is connected to the laptop when you do. Test again then save when you're done.

It is tamped Ross Tech VCDS HEX V2

Is there a way I can tell if it is a clone?

thanks
Sometimes the clones are stamped like that as well.
Where did you purchase the cable from?

Are you sure you have a genuine VCDS cable? The fakes / clones dont work with updated software and struggle to work with the software they were cloned for
This is false. I have a clone cable that I purchased for $30 years ago. Always works perfectly fine, always been able to update software to the latest version.

You must have gotten a good clone cable. I purchased one originally because it was half the price and had unlimited VINs. The one thing they emphasized was not to update anything with it or it would no longer work.
What they failed to mention, or maybe didn't know, was that it corrupted certain files for some modules that the modules needed.
I quickly ordered an OEM cable and it fixed the files. The company I purchased the clone from returned my money and told me to keep the cable which I still have but don't use.

His clone works cause it is probably certified by the IPPA...Intellectual Property Piracy Association.

I’m not sure, I just bought the cheapest cable with the quickest shipping on AliExpress. After flashing the chip, you can run genuine VCDS that’s updatable. It’s been 4 years and hundreds of scans and coding without issue.

It is not false but I am sure there are exceptions...... You are extremely lucky if a clone cable works fully with the version of VCDS software it was cloned for and typically supplied with as many features are not completley "cloned". Even more lucky if it works with later software versions especially the current one. Maybe if you have the technology to flash the chip in the clone cable to match the current VCDS firmware fully you could have more success

VCDS provide a great product and great support via their forum for users of the genuine product at a reasonable price. Whether you buy a pirate clone copy cable or the genuine article is a morale and legal choice each individual has to make

If you did not buy it direct from VCDS or their authorised dealers in your country then its a clone.

VCDS can tell from the serial number if its fake and from other external appearance clues that they dont disclose to not aid the pirates in making better copies

Seems like the OP has abandoned this thread and now we're just left discussing clone units.

I have not abandoned the thread. I have been watching an learning from all the posters. My original question about addressing the deriver interface is still available to answer.

Maybe something like" install this driver from this site, from someone who is a windows 10 wizard???

Check my edit in post #2. If you have a genuine VCDS cable then it will help you.

You've skirted answering where exactly you got the cable from multiple times. Vagcom is (now-days, anyhow) a very reliable application. With that said, it is somewhat advanced to operate if you are not technologically inclined.

Post a clear pic of the OBD2 end.

ok, it looks like I have a clone. I am giving up on it.

Parking the Touareg for now and will look into genuine Ross Tech in the future when my resiliance returns.

thanks to everyone
Glad you got it sorted. You'll definitely be glad when you get your genuine VCDS.
