Im new to this so apologies for my ignorance right off the hop here. I purchased a RossTech VCDS off a buy sell site, I appears to be genuine, but what do I know. Says Rosstech on the plug and even the velcro strap says RossTech. Downloaded the latest software (on a Microsoft Surface Pro, and then because I was having issues on my PC), its all plugged in, LED on the cord is lit, key is on, getting a "no response from controller" when attempting to do anything. It also seems like lots is grey out and un-selectable. For example when I go to the "Auto Scan" page, It won't automatically find my make or model, when I choose it (BP - 2011 Touareg TDI) it a scan, takes all of 1 second but theres no data, guys on youtube have a gateway installation list that they say might be the issue but that button is greyed out. Any tips or links would be appreciated!

Yeah, I saw one that after... Whats the difference between that one and this one?

Compatibility:

These interfaces work with most diagnostic-capable VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda models from 1990 through 2004 but does not work with any model requiring a direct CAN connection for diagnostics. If you have a 2003+, check to see if your car has a CAN connection.

The KII-USB does not support Turbo Mode, the Clear All DTCs function or Activating/De-Activating Transport Mode. A HEX-USB+CAN (or other newer interface) is needed for those

You need a CAN-bus cable, you have a K-line cable.

Thanks for your help... Is the Ross tech what you'd suggest over an OBDeleven?
I personally much prefer VCDS, I believe it’s far superior to OBD-eleven. However, OBD-eleven is nice in that you don’t need a laptop, you just use your phone so you can scan/mod on the go.
