I have a 2011 Volkswagon Touareg Sport with the 3 liter diesel engine. I recently read something about these engines freezing up because of this variable output oil pump issue. The recall tag under the hood lists: Recall code 23V1 with a repair date of 2/17/20. Off to the right lists 3 liter Gen 1.2 2011 model year. I'm hopeful that this is enough information to get some feedback on this oil pump issue. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure the 2011 was a Gen 2, not a 1.2, also known as a T3.

23v1 is an emissions recall, for a change in the pressure sensing glow plug. No idea where you got that it was an oil pump issue. Additionally, I don't think your gen 1 V6 TDI even has a variable oil pump, though I'm happy to be corrected
I don't think the OP has a Gen 1 as it's a 2011. Should be a Gen2.
I could swear I just read a thread about a variable oil pump for a Gen 2 or newer and some work around "fix" for issues relating to it. Damn if I could find the thread though.
Hopefully someone else read it and can chime in.

We got gen 1s for a year in the 7p, you guys got them for longer than that. OP has glow plugs with pressure transducers, so has a gen 1.

Lol wtf where do people come up with this crap. Never heard of the variable oil pump in these locking up

Trying to search for an example of this, I found nothing on any of the VW forums, but only this single article posted 4 days ago:

This is a clickbait site with terrible articles that are entirely made up (probably by AI), judging from the front page at dailywrap. Lots of fear based nonsense about a variety of topics warning people about hundreds of new risks that almost certainly don't exist.

This article could also be covert marketing for an ECU tuning company, that claims to be able to save your engine by remapping the ECU to have more oil pressure. The article is absolute BS because it claims to have data and studies (e.g. oil analysis results) but doesn't even talk about what specific engine or oils they are discussing. It also contains some really stupid, and entirely unrelated statements like "The Porsche brand took a hit because it used engines designed by Audi" which makes me suspect it is mostly AI generated word salad.

They are claiming that the factory oil pressure is too low and causes these engines to self destruct from loss of oil pressure. Which is laughable, because if it were true, VW would fix it immediately, because they are warrantying these engines practically forever after the dieselgate lawsuit.

I swear to God if "should I replace my variable displacement oil pump before it explodes" becomes the next "should I replace my HPFP as part of routine maintenance" I'm going to find a way to make this forum implode

OK, I thought it was strictly a year cut off thing.
