Ok so I have hird all about this VAG-COM stuff. What do I need to use it? And what can you do with it on a 2012 Treg? I have NO idea on how to do this stuff. Thanks!:p

have a look through here. http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f80/t3-vag-com-mods-68193.html

Over and above this, you can diagnose everything, not just engine codes. For general maintenance, it's great. Need to change the fuel filter, this will help cycle the fuel pumps. Break blead? same thing.

I held off buying one for years with the jetta, got the Reg, and this is the first thing i bought.

The reader - when you plug it in dont you just see the code on the screen? why do you ned a PC?

I took my car into a indie garage yesterday - was plugged in - he read the code there and then off the reader - no PC involved - if that brings up a code cant you then just source the fault off the net from that code?

Thanks

That's a odb2 code reader not a vag com. A vag com connects to the VCDS software for advanced diagnostics of Audi /VW cars and allows you to change parameters etc

Code reader is ok, VCDS is the dog's danglers.

If you were to change even 1 parameter like increasing turn signal blinks or the trany to ROW to show gear display, could the dealer deny any type of warranty work for "tampering" with the initial settings. My Reg is brand new and would hate to jeopardize a warranty situation.

Me too. I have a warranty and would not want to do anything to void that.

Most dealers wouldn't even notice the difference and how are they going to find out. If asked you could tell them another dealer changed it for you. It is obviously a dealer changeable item.

Don't worry about it. Dealer won't say anything. I had the DRL's disabled on both my Tregs when I took them in for service and they never said a thing. I have a few other things done as well. My current one I bought brand new and made mods right after I got it.

I have fiddled with a number of settings via VAGCOM and my Treg has been to the dealer four times (two oil changes and two for an audio system issue) and no one has said boo about the changes I made...and the service manager knows I have used my VAGCOM on the vehicle.
No worries.

+1 on No Worries.

We had a problem our dealer couldn't reproduce so I took in several VCDS scans to show them the error codes obtained over a couple of weeks. It was still under warranty and frankly it helped them drill down and solve the problem.

I bought VCDS before we got a Touareg mainly to help me diagnose and work on our other TDIs. It's far more than error codes -- helps to be able to look at measuring blocks to see if parameters are within spec, many other uses that have been mentioned, and more. Being able to tweak and change things is an added bonus.
