On the right tyres, Michelin Latitude Cross, and with some weight in the back, the current automatic Anorak is a pretty capable vehicle both on and off road.

The V6 will be a very nice addition though.

Just found out...first 2017 (MY17) Amarok 3.0Lt TDiV6 has been sold (herein Perth). No final szpecs, no final price, expected delivery Nov/Dec 2016.

I'm starting to do the sums.

May have a 2007 Touareg and Golf R32 for sale soon ('ish). watch this space.

Now on the second hi-line auto Anorak, but still with the 2 litre engine.

They drive well, tow well and are comfortable and utterly reliable.

The V6 would be the icing on the gateau.

Ah should have waited! Mind you I wuld not buy the first years model. I have always thought a V6 was needed in the rack.

No deal for me...missus is not prepared to give up the R32. Damn.

Had an 2013 Amarok for a loan car for 4 weeks, couldn't give it back fast enough.
It was a absolute chore to drive, and the little 4? cylinder engine (couldn't tell under that plastic cover) is majorly underpowered for a vehicle that large and rattled like an old tractor.
You've got to wring it's neck to get anywhere. A V6 is definitely needed.
The manual box was also fairly clunky, especially reverse, although this vehicle seemed to have had a hard life.
I guess on par with most other utes though.
The interior was ok though, the climate control and Bluetooth worked great and turning circle was ok for a ute, so a bit of a plus there.
Got back into my Treg, aaaaahhhhhh.....

Latest on the Amarok. Whilst the 165kW, 550Nm will remain, upmarket models will now offer a more powerful version.
Just released is 190kW (200 on overboost) and 580Nm torque.
Ad blue - yes. 8-speed remains though recalibrated and (IMO) silly, silly 20" wheels. List is $71,990 + on-roads.
It appears by the way, the 4-cyl variant now accounts for only 20% of sales.

The V6 is very good and the Anorak is a lot better than the Mercedes X class pick-up which quickly gets extremely pricey as you go up the range.

Other than Dollars, Any reason why they couldn't put the Air Suspension in the Amarok. I reckon that would be a winner, with Extra clearance and an even better ride and handling. Even it it was a $5K option I bet a lot of people would tick that box.

Would be a good idea since otherwise you need 250kgs over the back axle to make the ride properly comfortable.

Nice photos from what sounds like a good trip.

We have 2 V6 amaroks at work now, both delivered new to us about 10 weeks ago. Not sure what trim level they are, but they have leather seats and 18" alloys, full ICE kit etc, so must be up there.

I have driven them a couple of times... TBH not all that impressed. Identical power and torque specs to my 2007 v6 TDI treg, the Amarok has the 8speed auto.

For a ute, they are great - way nicer to drive than the competitors in terms of steering feel, road holding, stability under brakes etc.

But the amount of engine noise is surprising, considering the pedigree of the V6 TDI. They are M U C H noisier in the cabin, especially at part throttle, compared with my Treg. The trans also seems to hunt through the gears a lot at lower speeds. If you drive it hard, you wouldnt notice - nor if you drive it like a granny. But somewhere in between, the gear selection logic just doesnt feel good.

For the layman, I think they would be impressed. Coming from a TDI treg - you won't be impressed... not if you are the kind of person who owns a treg because you NEED to own a Treg, because other vehicles just arent good enough. You know what I mean.

There are a few other annoyances..... the flippin' key is unnecessarily difficult to turn.... why???

I feel like VW have stopped engineering vehicles the way they used to... little things used to be important. Now its like its half finished, development wise.
