V10 tdi preformance and engine differences

I have a 2006 v10 tdi. One of the previous owners blew the motor and swapped a new motor in. The new motor came from Norway I beleive and it was from a 09 Touareg. My touareg currently has the tune from a stock R50 in it as well as a R50 valve body. Depending on what 09 motor I have would I be able to reliably run a upgraded R50 on my V10. Also what motors would be able to run a tune like that reliably and how do I figure out which motor is in my Touareg right now?

Cheers

A V10 from 2006 would use a different CAN-bus version than a V10 from 2009. Because of that the control module from the engine (ECU) couldn't talk to the rest of the car (including the transmission, the instrument cluster and the access/start authorization module, which all would be essential), unless all of them were also replaced.

So, if the model year is right and you don't have a unicorn V10, it's highly doubtful that you really have an engine from 2009 in your 2006 car working, without getting a ton of fault codes and a very limited performance. And if you don't, then I don't know how you could possibly have an actual R50 tune (meaning on original firmware, not something that supposedly gives you similar performance) on the car, when R50s were using the newer CAN-bus version, with obviously a different ECU, and also had a different engine code.

Same thing with the transmission. Also, even late regular V10 transmissions had a different rating (850 Nm) than R50 transmissions (1000 Nm). I'm not sure how the former one would actually cope in place of the latter, but it might be very costly to find out, even if the engine electronics would be otherwise a good fit.

In short: if you want an R50, just get an R50, because afaik converting a 2006 V10 to an R50 is pretty much close to impossible. And the way it would be still possible just doesn't make financial sense.

Your actual and current engine code could be determined by the stickers on it, if still any present, or by looking at the part number and firmware version reported by the ECU. At least in the case of stuck units, because I'm not sure how much that term makes sense in the context of a tuned engine that had either firmware and/or possibly also some hardware components changed/replaced, and which in turn won't really match any of the stock engines, but will be some kind of hybrid matching neither of them.

This is really interesting. I really want to figure this out now. The dash works perfectly. The only issue I have is a corner light out that im to lazy to fix. All the modules talk to eachother and I have no issues preformace wise. As for the stats they match almost exactly with what a stock R50 puts out which confuses me because I have yet to find a tune with those figures. I had the valve body installed after I bought the car becasue the transsmisson was not happy with the tune and would go into neutral under heavy load (would an R50 valve body even fit into a regualr v10 trans?). Next week when it warms up I will have to see if I can find some sort of sticker to tell me what motor is in my car. The swap cost about 7k CAD including the motor so im not sure what all was swapped. Ill have to go back and look at the work order. Also I dont want to convert my v10 into a R50 I was just wondering if I could get some more power from my car as my evo buddies are starting to build their cars up more (they are both running about 300whp right now which is fun when my touareg keeps up)

The CBWA engine in the R50 has these injectors: 07z130073N. I just purchased the ECU set, Trans controller , Dash (Where the Can bus gateway lives) from a 2010 r%) to transplant into my 2006 BLE. I am also considering the injectors if I can find a set...but first to make it all work is a fair bit of module swapping and some wiring changes on the J519 boardnetz electrical controller.

I have sourced several of the canbus 2.0 modules including the Convieince, Tow detector, Front Wiper motor, Steering wheel controller, Slip ring with E suffix, Reverse Camera Module and the roof compas. Have a few more items that I need before I begin. One thing I am still looking for is the ABS controller with pump. It needs a few wires changed as well.

Look at this post for the first guy to do most of this:

I am also looking for the ACC b radar module.. have the other bits.

Hi Baselope, thanks for that info. I am curious to know if retro fitting the ACC to a 7L is something that could be contemplated and cost of bits to do it. Clearly you're heading to do it, will be keen to hear how it goes if you could advise please.
