Hello, I am an ol basshead now missing the thrill of hairtricking strangers. I'm pretty good with making the most of my space and power, but I am wondering how many amps I am able to draw away from the 190 out of the stock alternator for bass purposes? As far as I have seen nobody makes any higher output alternator. But for now I am looking to make the best with what I got. Assuming 12v instead of 14.4v and disregarding amp efficiency, how many amps can I take away from the car for long periods of driving (30+ min)? In other words, what is the maximum size amplifier that is safe to run on these extremely finicky electrical systems? How much of the 190a does the car need under normal 65mph driving with A/C? 190 * 12 = 2280, so is it safe to say I shouldn't go over 1500w RMS for long periods? 1000w?
Any advice is appreciated :) I'm not looking for extremely scientific answers, or I would bust out the multimeter myself. Thanks!

So wait, let me get this straight.
You have a 16 year old alternator that's probably about an $1100 replacement part, which might already be close to needing replacement, but you're willingly going to load\stress it additionally just to make some extra noise?

I can't wait to see how this turns out!

But if you really want to play with fire, why don't you log the alternator output on one of your typical drives, using as many electrical consumers as you possibly can? That should tell you what kind of "spare" capacity you have.

I don't have a definitive answer on how many watts of power you can draw extra and for how long but I can tell you that you would be better off going with a lower wattage amp that is a discrete class amp with a low THD% to drive your bass box. To help alleviate too much extra stress on your alternator you could install a capacitor on the +12v line to the amp.

Sorry you had this kind of experience. Not all of us are like that.
Some of us have seen this occurring more often lately.
Not sure if it's being done to inflate post count or not, or to just disrupt the forums.
Either way I don't see anyone doing anything about it.

Savage and VW for life are all over every thread with their incessant rudeness, and insults, trolling, and overall negativity. I don’t blame meanyhead at all - I get pretty bad vibes from this forum, and it’s because of 2, maybe 3 people.

Meany head has posted some ignorant, trolling, attacking BS in the past. Within his first few days of membership if I recall 🤔 he's certainly not innocent.

OP has not been an angel by any means, he has been quite rude and disgruntling in the past. Savage asked some valid questions, although perhaps he could’ve worded it differently. I would have commented nearly the same thing.

I think some of the "helpful" posters (myself included) are frustrated with posts that have absolutely zero pertinent information such as make/model/options, no prior diag, etc; then expect everyone to rush to their aid. Or just plain old dumb posts (not saying this is such). Some of that may boil over to other threads.

Nobody cares about post count, it’s meaningless same as instagram or Facebook likes.

OP has walked out the door.

Maybe a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

If members wish to complain about the behaviour of other members here, the reporting system is alive and well. However, making generalist, broad reaching, non-specific statements about members, does not help.

Everyone needs to step back, take a deep breath, and play nice.

Thread closed.
