They easily fold on my 2004 Touareg

I don't think the N.A. "Sport" Tregs have the option, but if yours does.
If you turn the mirror adjusting switch so that the line on the knob sits at the 5 o'clock position they should turn in. There should be a mirror symbol with a turning arrow in that position (see photo below).
Also if you have the RNS850, you push the "CAR" button then settings/central locking there should be an option to check for "fold in mirrors".

I already said that I don't have that feature. I don't see that mirror fold icon on the switch and I don't have the option in my car settings.

 

On a T2 the mirrors manually fold but sort of at an angle, not straight inwards like a T1. Could it be that you just need to figure out the proper angle to fold it?

 

Yeah, I'm aware of that, I tried many ways, I just don't want to break it if something is physically preventing them from folding.

 

Worst case scenario is you could try disassembling the mirrors (if they are as easy to disassemble as previous generations) and investigate what the problem is.

 

Can someone with a 7P Touareg which doesn't have the electronic mirror folding function check if their mirrors are able to fold physically? Thanks.

 

I am certain that all Touareg Mirrors fold. It is a common safety feature.

I have personally seen manual mirrors that have not been folded for a long time build up a dirt barrier and get very sticky, very hard to fold.

Just picked up a 2017 V6 Wolfsburg and the first thing I did prior to pulling in garage was to manually fold the mirrors. Just fold them, they wont break off!

 

I tried quite hard, there's a little bit of movement, but it feels like something is preventing it from moving beyond that (both mirrors).

 

Pull into a VW dealer ask anyone there to fold your mirrors for you. You will see they fold or they will break them off trying (which I doubt).

 

Even the electric folding mirrors will fold when manually forced/hit something. Mine regularly get pushed in when going through the car wash.

I had same issue on 08. I struck them pretty hard with my hand at about a 45deg angle up and back and a bunch of dirt came out and they folded...evidently they need to be exercised occasionally.

 

I thought they all had electric mirrors too. I replaced both motors in my 08 which was fairly easy to do yourself. Did you turn the mirror knob to where the electric adjustment position would normally be to see if it works in that location?

 

Grab mirror and tug firmly. It will fold back, OR forwards as well!! I reach out the window before pulling up to an ATM machine drive through so I won't tag the atm and ding the mirror.
