I asked for help on an issue about possible transfer box problem, which Treginginco helped with. But my VW dealer informs me that mixing new with existing used tyres (not changing all tyres. Two new ones 10mm old ones 4mm) can cause transfer box problems, and the juddering I initially felt was the start of this problem. Luckily I traveled only 10 miles, and have now been informed that when all the tyres are changed everything’s fine. Im now thinking of getting a Range Rover !

I'm not quite sure I understand what you posted... but is your dealer telling you that two new tires, combined with two old tires is causing your problem????

If that's so.... that does NOT sound right at all.

Well VW strongly cautions that all four wheels on the touareg
need to have the same diameter. It makes sense and probably
makes sense for most all-wheel-drive cars including a Range Rover

How much of a problem can mixing old and new tires cause? After i get my TReg back from the repair shop. I may have 2 tires with 10K 1 with 5k (Puncture last summer) and one new one (part of the current repair). I will ask my dealer but i thought would get an "honest" answer from you guys also.

a bit more info

Further to my earlier correspondence my local VW dealer fitted two new tyres on the rear axial, the front two were part worn. He suggested after much confusion and I expect contact with VW that the juddering problem would be fixed by replacing the two front tyres with new ones, as the overall tyre diameter was unbalanced between front and rear. I then contacted a Touareg main dealer who confirmed this and also stated that prolonged driving in this state would damage the transfer box. He also checked for any recall on my vehicle and it was all clear. (V10 5Ltr) This advice may help to prolong the life of our Touareg’s, after the warranty period
