Hi Eveyone,
I recently purchased a set of 18's, from a former touareg owner to use as winter wheels. They came with the sensor's attached to each rim (I only have the rims, no tires). They were on his touraeg for about 5k miles, before he replaced the rims/tires and he sold the touareg before putting the stock one's back on. The stock rims have been sitting ever since. Since I'm going to use these rims for winter only, I'm not concerned with having the sensors on them- I'd like to sell them. My quesstion is, how do I know if they all work properly if they're not hooked up to a car? (might be a dumb question, and I apologize if it is). I don't want to sell them without knowing. Thanks in advance, Amanda

Not a dumb question at all.

For starters, any idea how old the wheels are?

They came off a 2004 Touareg. Like I said they were only on for about 5k mi. The rims have been garaged since he sold the Touareg. From what I read, the sensors wouldn't have been active just in storage- but I could be wrong. Haha

Since they are now off (at least the hard part -the tires) it should be simple to replace the batteries. Then advertise them that way ie new batteries. I realize that doesn't specifically answer the question but it gives the buyer the best possible chance they will work like they are supposed to.

Batteries on sensors are not replaceable. When they die it's over. Take them to a good tire dealer, they should be able to check them for you.

on vag com max life shows as 99months

this might just be max 2 digits, but my TPMS started to go at 7 yrs=84 months.

I don't think the fact that they were on for only 5k miles matters, it's the time, and I suspect that 2004 sensors are nearing the end of their life.

I think you have 4 choices: 1) with a vag com and computer, you can add a TPMS off/on switch to the MFI.(When you turn it off, there will be a TPMS off icon in the MFI, but no annoying warnings). 2) pull the TPMS module and recode with Vag Com, which turns off the TPMS system(STFA for DIY). 3) Mount wheels with or without TPMS and live with the warnings when the sensors start to go. 4) Buy 4 new sensors.
