Any issues or concerns with towing a trailer with a brand new touareg? Does the engine need to be broke in first?

Can anyone reference this in an owner's manual?

I wouldnt tow with an engine that hasnt had it first service yet.

Pick up my new and first Touareg soon - 10 days.

Will be towing.

Thanks for this info. My dealer service department said you could tow immediately. I didn't agree, and felt uncomfortable with this.

So this info was good value to me. I won't be towing for at least the first 1000.

And he also said, there is no 1000k/miles first service....just the first 15,000.

I thought this also strange, as all other new cars (not VW) have had first services at 1000.

So, is there a first service at 1000 ?

Thanks for your help guys

It doesn't matter whether or not it is in the manual, don't tow for at least the first 1,000 miles to give the engine and transmission a chance to bed in under the car's own loading and not with 2 tons hanging off the back.

It's plain common sense to be mechanically sympathetic!

the 'service' @ 1000km is merely a cursory look over the vehicle for loose fittings etc

An oil change is not normally conducted

Either service it at 1000 and then tow or wait for the 15000 service and then tow.

I would not tow before the first service. Its not a beater. Its a sophisticated marvel of german engineering with not a lot of extra margin for error built in like a decade ago.

Look after it and it will last decades. Abuse it and it wont!

I certainly agree with everyone on putting some miles on the engine,so it can BRAKE-IN.
But even more important to your towing, is the BREAKING IN of the tires. Brand new tires can cause some serious SWAY. The tires need to be seasoned, thru heat cycles so that all the mold release agent is released from the rubber & the sidewalls stiffen up. If you must tow with GREEN tires be sure to air up to the max pressure allowed. PEACE

I think one must not lug the engine or over rev it but it's fine to two after 600 miles, iWe now have 8000 miles on our Treg and it runs better now than it did at 5k. I drove class 5 truck and don't believe in abusing equipment but I do know Diesel engines love to work.

Service in my view is at least an oil change.

Do not tow before you have had your first oil change.

The cars now days do not come with breaking oil and you do not need to change oil in the first 1000 miles. Even Harley Davidson motorcycles with a air cooled engine only recommend changing oil and filter every 5000 or once a year. The new oils are one reason motors last so long. Also the color of the oil on a Diesel engine means nothing , if you doubt what I am saying then send your oil in for analysis like the over the road class 5 trucks do.

yes, it might be fine and cars/oils have come a long way, but mechanical sympathy goes a long way. Even if you do it to ensure longevity of the car for the next owner.

Lots of opinions here. Just like belly buttons, everyone has one. We bought a 2014 TDI in February followed the owners manual. Drove it according to the manual for 800 miles then hooked up a small enclosed trailer with about 3500 lbs and away we went. The vehicle has towed more than driven without the trailer. Guess what? The tires worked great, it doesn't burn any oil, no funny noises, and the earth didn't tilt on it's axis.

If you follow the manual you'll be fine. Those fine German engineers didn't create the manual using opinions, or guess work they used years of testing and data to write it.

If you want to wait till after your first oil change or 125 heat cycles on your tires that's fine too.
