HI,

We have a V10 2005 model Touareg and are in South Africa.
After our recent service the computer reading showed that the tow hitch was not comunitcating with the vehicle and we were informed that this would be a lengthy and costly fix as they were not sure where the problem is exactly.
Has anyone had this problem before?
Appreciate any help we can get on this

Thanks for all your feedback. The trailer module plus the wiring harness has to be replace according to the SA VW dealer. Was going to take 3 weeks but have been informed Germany doesn't have spares and have ordered new trailer modules to be manufactured. 3 to 6 month wait if I'm lucky.
I am hoping the trailer lights will then work but I have a feeling this is a fishing expedition with me as the fish having to pay for each round of testing /replacing and " let's try this" approach.

How much would a Trailer module cost from anywhere but South Africa?
Does anyone know of second hand parts elsewhere?

Regards
Malcolm

Hi, Malx07 have you checked fuses 1, 3 and 41 on driver side fusebox? Also did you tow anything recently? Where in SA are you?
Thanks Johan. Sorry took so long to reply. We are in Lephalale in the Limpopo province. Very close to Botswana and looking forward to going camping in the Central Kalahari soon

The trailer module and wiring has to be replace apparently but will take 3-6 months as even Germany doesn't have the part.

Malcolm

Hi Malx07, it's sorry I am in Cape Town, I would've like to see the whole diagnostic log or get your vehicle on VCDS. They told you it is both because they did not do the basic tests. My experience in the dealer network tought me that, they believe in their VAS 5051b like a god. This machine will also eliminate any wiring problems if used right. If you take the plunge and let them test the vehicle, ask them for the diagnostic log, because it will tell you exactly how long they took to test and also point to either wiring or control unit. It won't be both, exept if you had a major water leak or electrical failure.

Regards Johan

Ps. Did you try to reset the tow cu by unpluging it for 2 minutes?
