Touareg's and biking.

Kind of curious, if other folks here use their Touareg to haul their bikes around. I know herothedog does, and Yeti does too. Any others using their VW's, in general that haul around bikes on them?

VW used to have an arrangement with Trek bikes, a partnership of sorts. From I think around 1995 with a Jetta Trek version, and I remember Ross Schnell /Trek in 2008 showing up at the Downieville Classic in a Trek Team Touareg.

In 2012, VW offered free parking to anyone with a VW, to show off their green technology, at the Sea Otter Classic, in Monterey, CA.

Seems VW and bicyclists have a bit of history together, that VW sees bikers as a target market.

Who here bikes?

Mine used to haul ski's as well, but then I moved back to PA and that stopped. I can't ski back here anymore after living for 11 years in UT and having Alta as my back yard ski area. I refuse to ski the little hill I learned on anymore.. :) So only thing it hauls now is my two Cannodales, my Flash carbon 29r and my Synapse carbon road bike. I don't have any pics to upload at the moment, but I'll try to get some eventually. Actually I have some pics, just too lazy to bluetooth them to my Mac... ;)

Bike has never been on a trailer and Treg has never hauled anything. I ride my Harley to every event...

BUT, if I did trailer my bike to an event it would only be to have my Treg there for off road adventures like in Spearfish Canyon when in Sturgis.

I don't think Niner had motorcycles in mind when he asked about bikes....:)

Bought mine with biking in mind

I needed a superior tow vehicle to replace the 2003 Toyota 4Runner I had for 10 years. I started to tow a small (<3000lbs) travel trailer on a 480 mile round trip about 4-5 times a year starting last year, for long weekends and vacations. The Touareg pulls it like it's nothing. The 4Runner (5000lb tow rating) struggled at +55 mph on long steep grades and it only has a 4 speed automatic.

I am just hoping that my 2013 TDI Sport will have decent reliability. I am not comfortable with the dealership doing the first 3 oil changes at 10K miles, but I am very glad it has a 100K powertrain warranty.

I mountain bike very frequently 2+ times a week, even in Winter if conditions are good.

Anyone ever used a North Shore Bike Rack or seen one in person? https://www.northshoreracks.com/NSR 2-bike.htm

I'm in the market for a new hitch rack since I bought a downhill bike last year. The thing weighs nearly 50 lbs and I just don't have the confidence in my rooftop rack that I did before I got this bike. Also, I was previously using the roof rack on a Subaru Outback which is at least a foot shorter than the Treg I think.

i often use our neighbor's northshore rack. Once you get used to it I think it is the best for mountain bikes. I like the Thule Sidearm for a rooftop carrier. Easy and secure but would still be work with a 50lbs DH bike. I own a Softride 4 bike rear hitch mount rack which is ok but requires separate bar hangars.
